opinions needed on rtcp using palm oil

I think Tanya is correct too. I RTCP with palm on occasion and have never had an issue, but then again, I only use it at 20% and do an extra HOT 40% lye solution.

    Help...

I agree with this with one exception.... the default water will buy you some time with some really stubborn fragrance oils....the soap on a stick specials.

    Instant clumping, what the heck!

Try soaping cool, and adding the FO at the very beginning into your melted and cooled oils. The scent will come through and this should buy you some time. Also, especially with florals, start by hand stirring to see what's gonna happen. I made some hyacinth soap for my grandmother's...

Did i do something wrong with the aloe butter?

Honestly, and this is just my HO....I would save the aloe butter for something leave on, like a lotion, where you can get the skin benefits. Superfatting with CP is also a dicey business. You're really better off to just calculate your recipe, and take a lye discount of 5% or whatever. The...

Can anyone suggest colors and scents for cp

Try your spice rack first.... Turmeric makes a nice sunny yellow Paprika makes a nice peachy color Cinnamon colors it a rich brown that's pretty much where I jump ship and go to oxides, ultramarines, and soap colors, but there's a few to try. I know you can also use alkanet, comfrey...

    So here's a weird thing....

I have a TOG mini mold that, in its many uses, has never achieved a gel. Personally, I have been converted to the "no gel religion" by soapbuddy....the colors stay truer, and the fragrance oils stay true and don't morph. :)

So I'm playing around with base recipe ideas

Just my observation, and carebear especially, correct me if I'm wrong....but the bars I've made with iodine below 70 never have gotten DOS....ones 70 and above have occasionally proved problematic. I have some of my original Crisco bars that I made with 70% Crisco....30% coconut. They lather...

    Coconut Oil

You CAN use that high a cleansing number....but you have to up the superfat accordingly. Basically, cleansing approaches 54, almost three times the normal number.....try about two to three times the normal superfat.....maybe higher. Coconut has a nice long shelf life. Most of the 100%...

I'm easily confused - please help me....?

If you want to take the lye monster out of the picture, you can also do HP and add the superfatting oil after the soap has cooked. I do this with shea butter and it makes nice soap. Castor oil also makes a nice superfatting agent with this method.

    Green Clay Powder/ Beet Powder

Never have used the beet powder but I have colored with clay. It should be a similar method. You can do it a couple of ways. 1) If you want a solid color soap, you can just mix it in with your oils and stick blend as usual. 2) If you want a swirl, you can take out the lightly traced...

    What's the zap test?

Sometimes, you will also get a zap a few days out from the FO you use. I had that happen to me. Made a coffee spice soap, gelled fine, cut beautifully, and touched it to my tongue....... ZAAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPPPPPPPP! I knew I hadn't mismeasured so I did some forum searches and learned about...

I did a stupid thing with my measurements

You can TRY and see how it does....just be careful and don't expect miracles (although you may get a pleasant surprise). Personally, with a smallish batch, I doubt I would trouble with it, where it had other problems with the measurements and such. I shred those batches into some water, add a...

Salt = antioxidant? Oh and DOS

Yeah.....preservative<>antioxidant Personally, I haven't had a DOS since I started leaving the canola alone, stopped adding Crisco at more than 20%, and changed my castile soap to bastile soap.

Those scents you just can't stand

My other half likes the food scents like banana bread, sugar cookie, chocolate covered cherry, and the like. My response for most of them range from indifferent to <GAG>
