I have a tried and true recipe for my soap, but I was really wanting to try something with crisco, since it is so darn cheap. . . and well this is what I came up with. I also want to keep it pretty simple, like I could buy all the oils at wal-mart if I needed too. Please give me your thoughts on the recipe, I still feel like I should tweak it.

Castor Oil -- 5%
Coconut Oil -- 25%
Crisco -- 70%

Ran it through soap calc and here are the numbers:

Hardness -- 38
Cleansing -- 17
Conditioning -- 56
Bubbly -- 21
Creamy -- 26
Iodine -- 72
INS -- 150

All of the numbers are in range except for Iodine, and I'm not quite sure what that means. . .

Just my observation, and carebear especially, correct me if I'm wrong....but the bars I've made with iodine below 70 never have gotten DOS....ones 70 and above have occasionally proved problematic.

I have some of my original Crisco bars that I made with 70% Crisco....30% coconut. They lather beautifully, and they're fine a year later....and they're quite hard nice soap that's not drying at all with a 6% superfat. Here's how they measure up in soapcalc

Hardness 42
Cleansing 20
Conditioning 52
Bubbly 20
Creamy 22
Iodine 68
INS 158

They're good all around soap, and the castor isn't missed.

Might be worth a try....they're certainly cheap to make. :)
