Is anyone using Rice Bran oil instead of Olive oil and what is your experience with the differences between the two? Olive Oil can be so expensive but I love the skin benefits it offers in soap but wondered how the Rice Bran does. I want a good product and don't want to cut costs and sacrifice the quality of my soap but if the Rice Bran produces a good product I might have extra money to try many many more fragrance oils.

What about Emu oil?...what does this replace?

Thanks as always for your help and great advice!!!

My only problem with rice bran oil is it turns rancid quickly and contributes to DOS

Oh my...I didn't expect to hear that...very disappointing! I'm a DOS hater!

I wouldn't say that it is prone to DOS or going rancid.

It is ment to have a shorter shelf life than OO, but I have never had DOS with high RBO soap, but have with OO.

It adds a creaminess to the bar, and isn't as slimy as OO. It does speed up trace (I don't notice too much), and still makes a bright white hard bar.

I use it in every batch - and it's about 1/2 the price of OO

Hmmmm....I have never had DOS with rice bran oil. Even a year old bar remained just fine. I find I get a nice texture with it when I want to make nice peaked tops

I've never had DOS issues with Rice Bran Oil. Some said, for a while, that you could replace olive oil with it and get the same results in the end, but I've NOT found this to be the reality.
