How are everyone's soaps coming along? I remade soap for embeds this morning, trying to get the right color. It didn't get as dark as I hoped, but it should work, and it definitely isn't purple this time!
Tomorrow is a busy day, but hopefully I can squeeze in some time in the afternoon to assemble another Buffalo plaid attempt.

Just finished assembling my plaid. Fingers crossed!
I also cut my knit that I made with impression mats. They turned out great!

I cut my entry sop and photographed it. It still has the vanillin discoloration rind, but I will be traveling between now and the entry period, so this was my only opportunity. It’s very, very basic but I like it.

Through making plaid soap I have discovered that I can't cut straight lines to save my life.
Also everything I read said TD will lighten vanillin but my soap it still nice and white even with a straight vanilla fragrance . Hopefully it darkens like it's supposed to.

I finished up making the soap. It’s tucked away in the box where I force gel..I took a little different approach to this soap, hint, it involves soap dough.
Have fun with the apples!

I haven’t signed up for this yet because I didn’t want to purchase a new texture mat and didn’t want to make red and black soap, even though I love to buy buffalo plaids for my husband. I’m about to embark on a major soaping marathon to donate in December for the food pantry, and the church fundraiser. Out of curiosity, I looked to see what other versions of plaid are out there that might qualify for the challenge and found some color options I might actually like to try.

The article suggests dark colors other than black and gray to use in the plaids. Is anyone else working on plaid for this challenge? Are you using black and red, or another combination?

I'm trying for brick red and natural/cream. My first attempt was chocolate brown/cream, but my third in-between color didn't have enough contrast. This brown and cream is what I was aiming for. Here's another bunch of color options I found as well.

Getting the in between color right is tricky. But it definitely does not need to be red and black - this website is a great resource for trying out different combinations https://www.plaidmaker.com/

Today is plaid soap assembly day for attempt two. I mixed my colors (clays) with the fragrance (essential oils) last week, thinking it would just sit there overnight. Does anyone know how likely it is that soaking the clay that long will either change the color or make it go bad?

It should be fine - have they been covered? The clay won’t react with the essential oils and the color shouldn’t change. But, the less contact the essential oils have with the air, the better.

Thank you! Yes, they have been covered. I went ahead and used them yesterday, just pouring in enough to get the shade I wanted. I made two small loaves in two batches. One turned out slightly darker than the other, so I'll have choices later this morning when I cut it. Both shades look like they'll be an appropriate mix of my two base colors. From an assembly standpoint, I think they'll be decent enough.

My vanillin isn't discoloring as quick or as dark as I would like it... Hopefully it will be as dark as I want it in the next day or two. Guess we'll see what happens.

In the meantime enjoy this knit I made with a few cut up mats.

Here was my set up before pouring.

And it going through gel! Which I thought looked really cool. I'm gonna have to find time to do more daytime soaping.

@AliOop love your entry. I know the color will change but that rind from the FO discoloration is really neat.
