I thought I'd start a new thread on how some essential oils get better the longer they are aged. A friend asked me the difference between Himalayan and Atlas essential oils, so I went to my oil stash to smell them and send her my thoughts.

My, oh my! The Himalayan has become so much better since I last smelt it months ago. It is deeper, honeyed and a little camphorous. It has lost the mothball smell reminiscent of normal Himalayan. This particular bottle is from NDA. I bought a 1kg bottle in 2020 and still have half of the bottle. Needless to say, I will be hoarding the rest of the bottle while I use another bottle I bought from HBNO last year. It can only get better, according to my research. The Atlas I bought in August of 2022 has gotten better, too. It has lost the mothball smell! It is phenomenal!

For inquiring minds that want to know the difference between the aged Himalayan and the slightly aged Atlas, the Himalayan Cedarwood EO is deeper, honeyed, and really smooth. It's got character and is skibidi! The Atlas is refined, slightly camphorous, clear and very smooth. For body oils, cream, body butter, etc. I will pick the Atlas for a blend or even by itself. The Himalayan, I would love for soap or body wash. I think it can hold its own in these mediums as it is strong. Both will be awesome blended.

Other essential oils that have benefitted from aging are:

Vetiver Haiti - Aged 2 years. I much prefer the Haiti over the Indonesian. Both have improved over time, but the Haiti is like a perfume on its own 2 years later! Voyageur Soap and Candle and PlantPower for the Haiti and Liberty Naturals for the Indonesian 2022.
Ylang Ylang 3 - Aged 2 years - It is much more refined, deeper and sweeter now. no hint of the behind of a baboon! NDA
Myrrh Resinoid - My first batch of this was in March 2023. It is so sweet and awesome now. It was leathery at first and got sweeter with age. HBNO
Patchouli - 5 years - Oh lala! 2 years - Really Nice! I have 10 lbs aging now from Liberty Naturals, which I bought last year. The 2 and 5 years are 1kg bottles from NDA. I can't believe the price of it now! It was $30 per pound for the 10lbs I bought last year!
Himalayan Essential oil - See above. Bought in 2020. NDA
Atlas Essential oil - See Above. 1kg bottle from NDA in 2022.

What other essential oils have aged well for you?
