I just recently learned that RBO can be substituted for OO (I'm a little slow, I guess). How much of it can I substitute without compromising the quality of my soap?

I typically use between 35%-50% OO, and I want to make sure that I continue to have a similar result.

Thanks!
Stacie

I recently made a batch using RBO instead of OO, it looks really nice, I haven't used it yet. I played with the idea of switching to RBO, but when I posted that suggestion on the forum, Irishlass came back with this:

I use it along with OO in my 50% olive oil Castile-types, but since RBO has such a high linoleic content compared to OO, I daren't use it as a total OO replacement in case of attracting DOS. The highest I use it at in those batches is 10%. It helps to cut down on the 'slime' (or the 'colliodal suspension', as I like to call it ) that olive oil's high oleic acid content causes to develop on the surface of the soap when the soap is wet.

So now I've cut the RBO to 15% of my recipe.

I don't substitute it for OO, I use it as well as OO - usually I use 25% OO and 25% RBO in each recipe. I have been CPing for 4 months now and as yet no sign of DOS.....

I have used rice bran oil in every single batch of soap that I have made for the past year and a half, and I have only had one batch get dos, but I narrowed that down to the canola, because that was the ONLY batch that I had used canola in.
I have also heard that safflower can contribute to dos.

how much canola did you use in your recipe?? I have been using a little bit and havent had any DOS but might be due to my small percentage of the recipe...? ")
