I'm bummed

I am totally bummed out, I sprained my knee on Friday and have not been able to walk very much since. I had plans to make soap all weekend and I'm thinking I'm going to out of commission for a couple weeks.:sad:
So I guess I will have to use the time to think up what I want to make when I'm better. I'm tired of sitting already.

totally easy. You mix your lye, melt your oils in the crockpot, pour your hot lye in the oils and use your stick blender til you get trace then turn it on low and forget about it for an hour. When it looks like mashed potatoes you put it in a mold.
It doesn't pour nicely like cold process but you can do the crockpot without haven't to stand up in the kitchen

Its the same way you do CP, except instead of getting to trace and pouring into the mold, it cooks in the crock pot until it doesn't zap then fragranced, colored and molded. If I let my crock pot heat up to melt my coconut and/or palm oil in it instead of the microwave, by the time I add my lye and get to trace, it takes about 30 minutes on Low for my 3-4 pound batch. It really isn't as complicated as it sounds

It can. I made a lemon poppyseed that looks pretty much like CP. The trick is to use something to help keep the soap fluid - I use sodium lactate in my HP's lye water, or if I'm out, I use sugar dissolved into water held back from my solution and then added back in with the rest of the batter. I also noticed that the more I stir my HP when I'm getting ready to mold it, the smoother it gets.

I wouldn't because of the lye coming into contact with a surface that isn't stainless steel - plus sometimes you don't get all the FO/EO smell out so you don't want your food smelling like lavender or patchouli LOL But you can easily find crock pots for cheap at thrift stores or even online - Kohls.com had the 6qt Hamilton Beach slow cooker for $20 last week.

I know people who do. I've only used my crockpot for rendering lard (for soaping) and soaping though. The enamel of a crockpot is not reactive so it shouldn't hurt you as long as you wash it.

It was recommended to me to get the crock pot liners for a rebatch. None
of the soap touched the crock at all. I'm not sure if that would work for HP.
