Today I thought I'd try and make Soaping 101's Yin and Yang cylinder soap.

I got the mold ready, inserting my silicone cutting mat in the correct shape. Mixed up all the ingredients, aiming for an orange and white soap, scented with 10X orange and lemon grass. I mixed up a little extra batter to pour into some little silicone flower ice cube trays I bought (to make wee travel bars).

Poured the cylinder full and banged it down. Started pouring the flowers but the mix is getting thicker and I'm fussing to get the molds filled in all the petals .. and in the back of mind I hear a little voice saying, "you're not finished with the cylinder". I look over and OH NO!!!! I forgot to take the silicone mat out when I was done pouring. I go to pull it out and it's stuck. I grab a pair of pliers and pull and it does come out BUT with all the soap still in it. Now it's starting to unwind itself from the Yin Yang position but the soap is still way too soft and the white soap starts sliding out the bottom .. and now I'm laughing and panicking!!!

I decide the smart thing would be to stick it back into the tube but with the white side drooping 2" out of the mat below the orange 1/2 I have to grab a spatula and scrape that off until it's even, drop the blob of soap into a measuring cup. Stick the whole mess back into the cylinder tube .. now try and stuff the thick white soap previously scraped off back into it's 1/2 of the Yin Yang. Put the whole mess outside in the cold and will just have to figure that one out later. It might just end up being two pieced soaps if the symbols still fit together after it's out of the mold.

Now back to the flowers and spend the next 1/2 hour trying to glob the really thick pudding soap into those wee molds.

That's enough excitement for one day! I'm going to go finish renovating the bedroom .. that's so much less stressful than soap drama LOL!

what did you use as a mold? if it will fit in the oven and can stand the heat you can try CPOP. that way, when the soap goes into full gel, you can just pull the silicone mat out.

Seven .. PVC pipe and silicone cutting mat, yes it would stand the heat but it would have to lay down to fit in the oven and then everything would spill out, LOL! But you have me wondering .. could I stand it in a double boiler and water bath it to gel???

Dennis .. a good friend taught me .. if you cry you'll never stop crying, so you might as well laugh.

If it doesn't look the way I wanted, it's still soap.

Well .. I'm screaming happy to say I won't be gelling this soap. I think it looks crazy amazing and although it was an accident it's perfect in two pieces. I LOVE IT! I want to aim for a darker orange next time but I'll be repeating this accident again
