has anyone used canolive oil? -new pic added

I thought I would resurrect this thread with some info on the canolive from Saporito. I just bought 2 litres and called the company, who told me it was 85% canola, 15% olive oil. At $4.77 for 2L I couldn't pass it up. I have used canola at various percentages with and without ROE. One...

    First and Second CP bars

Your honey soap is beautiful--leave it exactly the way it is. :) The white stuff is probably ash and adds to the character of the soap. Good job! It's too soon for DOS if you just made it recently. The calendula colour will seep into the soap.

    Is this DOS?

Could be but it seems to be localized to one bottom corner. BTW did you use a vanilla stabilizer? Your white soap won't be white for long...

    hydnocarpus oil?

Apparently it contains cyanide and cannot be ingested...! http://www.onlynaturalessentialoil.com/chaulmoogra-essential-oil.html ETA: Not that we want to eat it or anything...just thought I'd mention it. ;)

    INSTANTANEOUS seizing!! Recipe woes?

It was likely the stearic acid that caused it to seize. Someone mentioned in an earlier post that she heats the stearic acid with other oils then blends it like a lotion, then adds it to the batter. I don't know if it slows down the seizing at all so hopefully she will read and correct me if...

What is the best lavendar E.O. to use in CP

New Directions Aromatics :) Between them and Saffire Blue, I'm not sure who gets more business out of me but service is good and the quality of their product is great IMO.

    "preservatives"/antioxidents

I use rosemary oleoresin (not the same as the essential oil) and it seems to work well as an antioxidant. As for preservatives I don't think they're necessary in soap. Even with DOS the soap is still usable, just doesn't look good and might smell stale.

    1st Batch

Floral FO's tend to move quickly, and those containing Gardenia (one of my favourites) seem to move very quickly. Try tempering the FO in some of the oils you plan to blend it with for about 10 minutes or so, then add it at trace to ensure your lye is completely mixed. It will still move but...
