What is the ingredient that makes a lotion/butter/cream be absorbed by the skin quickly? You have to rub some creams for a long time whereas others get absorbed very quickly.

Does anybody know?

Practice makes perfect! We use no additives in our buttery type lotion and it absorbs well is not greasy or sticky. Took us a couple of yrs to get it just right. But I do use IPM, (Isopropyl Myristate) in my anhydrous products including lip balms

I have read on a couple of different sites that Isopropyl Myristate does help with assisting a topical product to penetrate below the epidermis. I just wanted to mention that you can use additives to help with penetration but there are going to be other factors affecting the rate of penetration. Oil/butter fatty acids (saturated vs poly/monosaturated), skin type (normal, dry, or oily), age, area of body (skin varies in thickness), skin condition (damaged/undamaged) and personal skin care will affect the penetration rate of your product. As an example, my skin is dry, sensitive and sun damaged plus I also exfoliate my skin. Because of these factors, my skin will absorb lotions, butters and creams faster than my sisters’ skin.

I also love Swift’s blog and highly recommend it. She has written about penetration enhancers which you might find helpful.
