    Post your Gripe

My BP is down since I started taking Hawthorn. Old herbal treatment for regulating blood pressure available at the local health food store. On a side note, I am also now augmenting my COPD treatment with herbals and have cut my steroids in half. Jan says I sound better while I'm sleeping and I...

    Remember this soap

Or you could do it again with a "ghost" pattern until the vanilla does it's discolor thing. I do that with Dragon's Blood. Looks like nothing until a few days later when the discoloration starts....

Had planned on maybe putting in some onions this week in the garden. Guess I'll have to wait a while since the river runs through it...

    Hydrogenated soy

It is a "soy based additive" according to what I have been able to find. That's why I was willing to try it. Since it is 2% they are not required to state what it is exactly and can claim some sort of proprietal need for secrecy.

Rain day. For the next four days. I could clear my curing racks and box soap. Not inspired. Too wet to go out in the gardens. Too late to prune apple trees. At least I'm retired so I'm not sitting in a RV or motel room waiting for it to dry out.

    the future

Tomorrow holds the promise of a loving God. Life is an adventure and a journey. Enjoy the journey! We lived in one house for 30 years and raised our children there before we moved. It all worked out better than I could have planned. We are also in the country now and the "kids"( 30 to 45 years...

    Soy Wax Users

I'm slow but I do get back on ( squirrel!) topic. Both 415 and 444 soaps lather and clean the same as far as I can tell. I did use different scents so the one with lemongrass EO may be just a little softer. Recipe is 30% lard 20% soy wax 15% olive oil 15% shea butter 15% coconut oil 5% castor...

    Soy Wax Users

I did notice today that Soapcalc now lists soy wax 27.5 as well as soy wax. I did however forget to look at the SAP value.:beatinghead:

    Soy Wax Users

Dawni, I tried an end cut of the 444 tonight. Lots of suds!! I'll need to look at the recipe in the morning. If you would like it I'll post it. I made the same recipe with 415 and I''l test an end cut on it tomorrow too.

    Soy Wax Users

I'll just use soy wax for candles so I don't have to worry about not being highbrow enough.

    Lye Dust Concerns

Adding a bit more liquid and stirring carefully should do the trick. As has been said don't be afraid of it, simply respect it as you would something hot on the stove and wear the correct protective gear for the job at hand.

    Soy Wax Users

From the limited amount of research that I have been able to do regarding soy wax and MSDS for actual ingredients it appears that ALL soy wax contains some level of partially or non hydrogenated oil. OMG ! NOT Soy bean oil will still be made into soap and the SAP values are close enough that...

    Help with accelerated trace

100% olive oil saponifies and it's all soft oil. The trick with controlling the trace rate ( soap on a stick) is to use a balance of oils that do not all saponify easily ( quickly) and to control some of the speed with water content. Every recipe that I have used so far behaves differently...

    Help with accelerated trace

Random thoughts. Temp is 95 degrees F. A little on the cool side for the amount of hard oils. The sugar in the coconut milk may be the culprit. Have you soaped this recipe before without acceleration? What was your lye discount ( superfat)?
