Does anyone know if you can use wine in a recipe that contains lard? I just want to try and see how it works but I don't want to waste a batch either.

It should be fine, I use beer in lard soap.
I thought it should be but I wanted to make sure. I couldn't find any information that said I shouldn't or any problems that I would have. I only plan on using 50% and 50% water.

The only issue I ever have with lard is it likes to separate and go grainy when I do HP. Ruined a few batches so I don't HP anymore.
I know other members HP lard with no issue but it doesn't like me.

Make sure you absolutely remove all the alcohol in your wine. The only lye volcano I ever had was when I used wine.
Anymore, I never mix alternate liquids with lye, except aloe juice as it behaves well.

I am thinking of using Aloe instead of wine. I am going to reduce the alcohol tomorrow and then I am going to put it in the freezer overnight. I will make my decision on which to use Sunday morning. It all depends on which color scheme I decide to go with. I am debating on doing a melon theme, blueberries or neon cotton candy. If my blue Hawaiian fragrance makes it here by Saturday, I will consider it as well.

You don't have to freeze your wine. Reduce it down to just a couple oz, it will be thick like syrup. Add this to your oils before adding the lye solution.
Its a good way to get all the wine in the soap without any weird chemical reactions with lye.
I use 16 oz of beer reduced to 2 ounce (roughly) for a 2 lb batch. Subtract the wine syrup from your water amount.

Thanks. My wine is a little over 16 ounces I was planning on reducing it by 50%.

The only Aloe vera juice I could find has 1/10 of a percent of sodium benzoate and citric acid as a preservative. Will that effect the soap in any way?

The wine soap I made with lard had no problems. Reduced the wine by cooking to about 50%. Wine was my only liquid. If I remember right I didn't like the smell when I added the lye, but the smell did not come out in the soap. Just checked and I did add a Pomegranate FO just in case the smell came through. I HP all my soaps
