Planning to make soap today for the first time in TWO YEARS! (Except for the soap dough last week) I’m so nervous! I just mixed my lye water and realized I forgot to dissolve my sugar in the water first. Is there any way to save it? My recipe needs it for lather?
I put my sugar in with my oils and always have. works beautifully for me!

I'm so excited! Nervous I'll mess it up.
So, if you “mess up,” welcome to the world of being human. You can make more!

Someone unnamed talked me into attempting knit

I've done it a couple of times and for some reason, I didn't notice difference. Even though according to many sources sugar is not supposed to be oil soluble. I guess it just melts with the oils and that way works too

I learned a few lessons today….
1. I really do not enjoy FOs that smell like baked goods. I knew this, but had purchased BB Gingerbread Cookie FO for some odd reason. Soaping with it yesterday and cutting it today definitely confirmed my distaste for these types of smells. 🤢🤢🤢
2. I don’t ever ever ever need to attempt a mica line again. Hats off to everyone that can pull this off. Not only did they not turn out for me, I literally had Copper mica everywhere. My house may never be the same. The air purifier went into turbo mode. The swiffer duster was covered in it. I may still have some on me after 2 showers. I think the dogs are sparkly. My work surface mat still looks coppery. The Twilight vampires would have felt right at home. All that, and they didn’t come out well. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
3. Orange is not my friend- it’s already fading out. I knew I should have added some neon 😡
4. I have no patience for discoloring FOs that when you try to help them along and use a brown mica, come out looking like baby poo.

I only used the FO in the brown sections, so the green and orange sections should not discolor.

Awwww @dmcgee5034 those look fantastic to me! And I feel really badly for giggling at what you wrote (but you made it funny!) when I know the disappointment of planning something out like that, only have it all go sideways. Here's hoping that you got it all out of your system in one swell foop, as my pa likes to say.
Glad you got the giggle - I almost always intend my “rants” to provide comic relief. 😂🥴😂

Took my soaps out of the cooler. They were still a bit warm and soft. It took every ounce of will power I had not to try and unmold/cut them!!! Some beading on the surface I’m hoping is just water. I def had trace. May not have mixed FO completely I to all colors as I almost forgot it completely. 🤞🏼

My "knit" soap came.oit the mold this morning. I miscalculated my batch and was one layer short. It got added several hours later so I hope it stuck. The colors give me Freddy Krugervibes for some reason. Anywho, we shall see how it does tonight.

I am frustrated. My recent batch of ZNSB went haywire and I've never had an issue with it before. The top layer of the entire loaf almost looks like a partial gel. Not crazy noticable though, so I cut the loaf as usual. Bubbles plus wire cutter.... Not the smooth appearance I need since this is a special order for a customer who intends to give these away as Christmas gifts. Please don't tell me I'm going to have to cut a loaf by hand to get the smooth surfaces I used to get even when using my wire cutter. Is this a wire cutter problem, a stickblender problem, or something else entirely? Ugh

Oh my land, that knit soap is amazing! Please, can you explain to me how you make it? As far as I can tell, I'd just size a fondant mat to the bottom of my mold and pour soap over the top of it, but you're talking about layers...🤔 Yours is gorgeous!
I cut a silicon mat to fit into my little Amazon mold(that really hurt my heart) and just made up a tiny bit of soap to spread over it. I think I 2 ounces which was WAY too much. Then divided my recipe into 3 parts for layers(which calculated wrong and needed a 4th). Honestly, if had found my dividers, iwas gonna try Buffalo plaid layers and kill 2 birds with one stone lol. Still might

I already tried that.
I figured it out, though. I just tested my new stickblender and whadayaknow, the internal seal isn't working properly. I hope I can still return it. This is only the second batch of soap I've made with it.

Im so sorry your stick blender isnt working. That's been such a stickler for you! This is the stick blender I got for my soapmaking. I like it so much I bought another one for making mayonnaise and blending apple butter.

Bought this with the coupon code so decent price. So far not bad. Pretty similar to @ackosel too
