After a long day at work, and not enough energy to actually make something, it was a good time to prep some ingredients for making stuff later.
First up were some oil infusions: one with arnica, and another with calendula. These are part of my varicose vein lotion that also contains several different extracts and EOs. Getting the infusion started was the first step to replenishing this lotion, which has really helped. Those darn veins haven't disappeared, but they have visibly diminished since I began using this, and no new ones have appeared.
Next up was using a spice grinder to powder some
freeze-dried fruits from Walmart. If one were going to eat them as snacks, they are ridiculously expensive for the small amount in each pouch. For use in this
Fruit Smoothie Lip Scrub, however, these pouches are much less expensive than buying identical fruit powders from the recommended ingredient supplier and paying to have them shipped. I've made lip scrubs before, but not with this recipe, and not with fruit powders or the recommended Lorann flavor oils. I'm looking forward to giving this a try!
On a completely separate note that has nothing to do with bath and body stuff, I also painted a pair of brown leather boots using Angelus Leather Paint. This stuff is amazing! It's an acrylic paint for leather that has no smell, leaves no brush marks, and cleans up easily off hands (and ahem, hair).
I have always liked the style and fit of these boots, but the particular brown of the leather was just bleh, and didn't match anything else I owned. So, when my favorite black boots finally bit the dust, I had nothing to lose by painting the brown ones black. Honestly, it was super easy, and they turned out great! The week before last, I also painted a lavender leather purse. It was an expensive name brand and in great condition, but not a color that works for most of my outfits. I'm so thankful that I took a gamble on painting it black, because now it's perfect.
Sadly there are no before pictures; you wouldn't believe they are the same boots and purse. All this for about $20 in paint, foam brushes, acetone (for removing the protective coating), and sealant - way cheaper than buying new boots and a new purse!
