For the past 4 years I have been using a store bought body wash in the shower. In the past 2 weeks we have been using our homemade soap. OMG!!!!! I can't believe the difference in the looks of our shower, what a mess. Baking soda and lemon juice got it off no prob but I was amazed at the amount of soap scum. Just thought I would share my wide eye feelings.

I live in Hippie-ville,and spritzing down your shower with diluted vinegar helps keep your shower looking nice between scrubbings.

I have used several etsy brands and am not seeing the soap scum...

Of course, you'll get soap scum. That is the nature of the extra emolliency from the oils we use in our cold process soap. If you don't want soap scum, you'd best stick to bath gels. Otherwise, embrace the scum and use some vinegar to spritz your bath.

Oh no no no no. No more shower gel. Not only am I addicted to making soap but I am addicting to using it. So from now on there is gonna have to be a bottle of vinegar and water in every shower in the house.

those lovely oils may leave an oily layer on tub, and such, but SOAP forms soap scum with hard water. fact.of.life

(you won't see soap scum if you don't have hard water, btw, since it's the minerals in the water that bind with the soap to form the scum)

commercial products are often NOT soap, but in fact, detergents.
commercial SOAPS often have chelating agents added (EDTA, for example) that bind with the minerals in water so that they cannot form soap scum with the soap.
