Rice Bran Oil from my Ag store in Soap?

I noticed Rice Bran oil at my feed store the other day. I know I can feed it to my goats, but can I soap with it? I'm not sure of the brand. I just passed by and said, "Hmmm...rice bran oil...soap?" Is there a difference between feed quality and cosmetic quality? Does anyone soap with it regularly? What are your thoughts?

I love to buy things locally....helps me with my "OMG I am so impatient! I need my oils NOW!" moments.

You can soap it. I tried it when the price of olive oil skyrocketed, but I found I didn't like the final texture of the soap made with rice bran, so I went back to olive oil.

I have some too that I tried in some bath cookies but I haven't used it in any soap yet. What did you not like about it SoapBuddy?

I like rice bran oil when used as part of the oils for soap. It is less expensive than olive oil and makes a nice bar when combined with other oils and fats.

Yep, it's actually a product for horses. I'll probably be buying some soon for the goats anyway. It's used to fatten up thin animals.

I believe it was $17 for what appeared to be a gallon. Not sure on the size because I just looked at it in passing, but it was definitely a decent amount for the price. I'd go look there first before trying to buy it at a soap supply place. Probably get it cheaper at a Tractor Supply, or Southern States.

I use 8% Rice Bran Oil in my favourite soap recipe. I started adding Rice Bran Oil after I read somewhere - Use between 5-20% Rice Bran Oil for a silky lather. Also adds conditioning and bubbles.

hmmm -- I'll have to look at TSC next time I am there (twice a week for goat grain).

The TSC near me is a "hit or miss" because I think corporate sends them their order and they don't get to order what they want (never enough goat grain to supply the need) but they finally had the pine tar but it was expensive - 25 for a small pint can. I thought it was cheaper than that so I passed...
