i think this is pretty cool. the first set of pics are from when the batter was thin--the next is at the end when it was pretty thick and the last are from the middle of the pour when half of the batter was thicker. don't mind my mis-shapen bars. I am more than frustrated with my sewer pipes--and the addition of the liners--both of them are ticking me off to no end 20190331_094101.jpg 20190331_094345.jpg 20190331_094804.jpg 20190331_094451.jpg

Very interesting patterns that strainer makes. Interesting also, how you can get to decide what your patterns could turn out to be, by controlling your trace. Very cool..

I like your colors choices too :)

It reminds me of what my soaping instructor made using pop-bottles. Her husband drilled holes into the bottoms of pop bottles and the tops were cut off so the opening was wide. The bottles became a funnel with multiple holes, but the holes were placed in such a way as to create a sort of flower in the soap when held over a pringles can and alternating colors were poured through the pop-bottle funnel.

I think the major difference was the size of the holes. With the pop-bottle method, the goal was to create a flower with large petals, so the holes were rather large.

I had posted a picture of what I used but afterwards decided to cut the holes a lot bigger :) I would re-post but it is still got soap on it. washing soap dishes is the plan for the day!!

sounds like a fun project to try!!!

Looks cool, Very 60's ;)

Did you have to Bang the pipe down to make sure there were not bubbles ?

I did a little but I was having such a time with acceleration that towards the I was just concerned with getting it in there so I could get the strainer out :). I wonder if the strainer didn't take care of bubbles if they were in there? I think I saw one or 2 real small ones

Are you using the thinner pip or the Thick White PVC pipes?
Curious how well they Gell in them with regular CP soap.
I have only used then for Salt bars.

I only see 1 or 2 small spaces/bubble in them and that is why I thought you must have banged them. I know if it was me and I didn't bang there would be BIG bubbles in it ;)

Did you use a 4 inch pipe? I have one but I think it looks too big for soaps. Plus I am not looking forward to lining it and trying to get my soap out of the mold. I like the way yours turned out.

That's what I'm trying! I have the bottle bottom cut and pierced, I just have to get myself in gear to try it out

I may be wrong but I think pulling the strainer up thru them might just break up any bubbles that are in them (well I guess it didn't with mine either) --but not positive on it. I usually don't have too many bubbles though and i forget to bang the molds all the time :)
my tubes are 1/8 thick. I wrap it with a towel and then a heating pad and then another towel and they gel fast--I look and run my temp gun on them and then turn it off but leave wrapped. I throw the mold in the freezer when they cool off but am thinking I might need to keep it in the freezer longer for them to come out easier. using the cutting mat is giving me wonky shaped bars

I use a 3" tube and it is a pain to get out. usually if you throw it in the freezer and bang it on the cement it slides out--I have been having issues but I think I wasn't freezing long enough cuz it was kinda sticking and then I cut the pipe in half and had a little burr that was marking them---don't know why it took me so long to figure that out duh!!! I tried using a cutting mat but it wont give me a round bar so I am done with that. I found the pipe at menards for a couple bucks it is a sewer pipe and they seem to come in smaller sections

Nice design Marilyn! I love the first one :) Def reminds me of the 60's

Line with Freezer paper. Or rub Mineral Oil inside and leave about 2 inches at the top.... get a Tomato can that will fit inside it and a FAT pole to push it through. After a while the mineral oils inside every batch will make it come out easier the next time.

DON'T use the 'pull top' type of tomato cans....... it will bust  ask me how I know

I will try using mineral oil. I have used cans but it didn't help so I just thru it back in the freezer longer. maybe I will rub mineral oil on it and line with the freezer paper at the same time--hopefully that will make it stick to the tube while I am pouring. thanks!!

I had a plan in my head to use a thin plastic bottle for the same purpose! And here I was thinking it would be a new invention.

Really neat effect!
Didn’t you start this pickle strainer craze Artemis?

I couldn't use the freezer, mine is tiny LOL

You want something Flat, a 1" thick round wood would be good but have to be the full diameter of the tube or you just dent the soap.

the cans I have used damaged the soap, I only make around 8 bars at a tie and my freezer doesn't have much in it :) I liked the wooden plug that was shown on the video for the pickle strainer swirl. I used to use those at the papermill but I don't know where to get them now--but the wood is a good idea!! thanks

There was one video where they left a little more 'head' room and banged it on the concrete outside. I think that only works after you have it well Seasoned with oils to help slip out.

We may be thinking of the same video :)
I had a hell of a time before.
I may have even had a few posts about it on here. search my name and see :)

even freezing it I still bang the crap out of it on the concrete. I am debating whether to make another round soap today just to try it haha. I have been double thinking my comment on putting the oil on the pipe and then adding the freezer paper--that might make it stick too. I will have to search your name to see :) .
