As someone who is sensitive to smells, I prefer a lack of synthetics/chems and the more subtle scents with 'soap' stuff. I (my gal) also likes these scents to last more than an hour or so.

Is it possible to have a natural, long lasting, 'subtle,' masculine scent?

Your answer is yes? I would very much like to hear your take on the subject. :)

I'm my experience, no scent in soap, fragrance oil or essential oil, has ever lasted on the body more than, like, 15 mins. And the only one in my possession that does that is Nurture's Dragon's Blood.

As for scents applied in the form of a cologne or deodorant or body spray, I cannot say, as I don't make those.

I'm sure there are scents you could use in soap that would cling that way, but that would be by definition not natural.

The laundry industry uses waterproof, wash resistant (and highly unnatural) aroma chemicals for smells they tout as "staying fresh".

As those specific molecules aren't going to be disclosed on your bottle of fabric softener, your best bet for now might be to try fragrance oils that say they are dupes of those laundry scents.

Going through the laundry aisle in the grocery store, I've never smelled anything that smelled remotely natural, but you might find something you like.
