I think I'm going to stick to my "she's buying the cheap not-quite-olive oil" assumption. I know some people find 100% oo soap slimy, but I live in Phoenix with SUPER-HARD water and don't have any issues.... then again, I'm as white as white can be. I think now, I'm going to have to give a selection of soaps to my black* friends and ask how they feel on potentially "ashy" skin.

Side Note: I had never even heard of the term "ashy" used to describe dry, black skin until I went up to my friend Kenji (who is black ) and said "oh your skin is dry... do you want some lotion?" He turned to another black friend and said (laughing) "Shannon just called me out for being ashy!"

I find Philly to be very exuberant, yet defensive. She also seems unwilling to listen to constructive criticism but very quick on the draw with the ol' race card. People are (were?) just trying to help.

*I don't use "African-American" because:
1. Not all black people are of African descent
B. Not all people from Africa are black
3. I'm against political correctness- we keep switching words for no reason other than to "make people feel better." Retarded means slow, Midget means little person, Deaf means hearing-impaired... I have proportionately big ankles (not QUITE as bad as cankles), does that mean I'm an aesthetically-challenged talus person? No, it means my ankles are too big! Moving on....

Sincerely,
Shannon (aka kittywings) a mixed-Western European-American

(edited to capitalize a letter)

^^^all of that, kittywings. I use African-American because it seems apparent the terminology Philly is used to, so out of respect to her, I do. However, many people I know do not think of themselves in those terms aka "african american".

Okay so here are the failing recipes...

My baby soap

7% super fat
cp soap
10.56 oz water
4.067 oz lye
Olive 11 oz
safflower 3 oz
shea 4 oz
castor 5 oz
coconut 2 oz
soybean canola 7 oz

never got hard, over 30 days old

Gummy bar Have to find recipe....sorry

successful bar
36 oz canola
8.3 oz castor
7.2 coconut
7.8 shea
33% water
7% superfat

cp bar...hard the next day, very moisturizing, colored with tumeric, 1/2 of water coconutmilk and guava nector by goya

This is the veggie I want to try tonight, I do have to perfect an all veggie recipe because I think it adds to the versatility of my offerings

I want a for sure hard bar...so

45% palm from ciabara
20% olive (supermarket cheap brand I may swap out for canola)
13% coconut
10% castor
7% shea
5 % safflower (just cause I brought that too from ciabara

I am going to hp this

and cp my final lard....plus my new tallow batch
besides the veggie bar the animal fat batch will be my practice of doing cp in a bucket (meaning a batch larger than my 5 qt crock pot)...my goal tonight fill 5 to 6 molds...never did two batchs at once or a batch larger than 4 lbs.

here is the gummy soap recipe made July 15, hp, still squishy
From my post of July 15-
<<<I think I figured how to make gummy soap, this stuff looks HORRIBLE, worst than my worst soap ever please tell me what I did wrong

Impaired Veggie soap recipe (at least I got the 2 color hp right)

25% canola
25% olive
16.67% palm
10% coconut (76 degree)
6.67% jojoba
6.67% shea
10% castor>>>>

I think you may find that 45% palm could be quite drying. I'd rather have high coconut than high palm. I get you with the veggie bars though. As much as the public demands it (stupid advertising and religious reasons), my lard bars are way nicer for the skin than any veggie bar I have tried or made so far.

Canola can make a rather soft bar. OO eventually hardens, but Canola never does. But 20% should be ok

okay, I felt this coming right from the start.

The SMF's definition of an internet troll:

"In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupting normal discussion."-WIKI

The SMF has zero tolerance for trolling. If we determine you are attempting to provoke or disrupt this forum or if your posts have an inflammatory feel to them your account will be deleted an your IP will be banned.

We don't play that way here.

I was using so much palm based on it being called "veggie tallow"...so you think it has drying properties on it's own beyond what soap calc reveals?

I got a 9 for cleansing and a 60 for conditioning....

I'm going to say one last thing cause it is WAY past my bedtime (1.19)
I do not want anyone else here reacting on the DOS situation.
From now on this topic will not be about anything but the veggie recipe.
Phillysoaps will not make any more provoking or disrupting comments and take a look at the forum rules.
I'm only the newbie-MOD but I'm sure this situation will be dealt in an appropriate manner.
