I think I'm going to stick to my "she's buying the cheap not-quite-olive oil" assumption. I know some people find 100% oo soap slimy, but I live in Phoenix with SUPER-HARD water and don't have any issues.... then again, I'm as white as white can be. I think now, I'm going to have to give a selection of soaps to my black* friends and ask how they feel on potentially "ashy" skin.
Side Note: I had never even heard of the term "ashy" used to describe dry, black skin until I went up to my friend Kenji (who is black :shock and said "oh your skin is dry... do you want some lotion?" He turned to another black friend and said (laughing) "Shannon just called me out for being ashy!"
I find Philly to be very exuberant, yet defensive. She also seems unwilling to listen to constructive criticism but very quick on the draw with the ol' race card. People are (were?) just trying to help.
*I don't use "African-American" because:
1. Not all black people are of African descent
B. Not all people from Africa are black
3. I'm against political correctness- we keep switching words for no reason other than to "make people feel better." Retarded means slow, Midget means little person, Deaf means hearing-impaired... I have proportionately big ankles (not QUITE as bad as cankles), does that mean I'm an aesthetically-challenged talus person? No, it means my ankles are too big! Moving on....
Sincerely,
Shannon (aka kittywings) a mixed-Western European-American
