Hi there.

I am brand new to soaping, and have made about 20 molded soap bars. No loafs or anything yet. It was so fantastically fun, I want to continue.

I have a plan, as well, that I am hoping I can get some advise and information on. I work full time, but want to do this on the side to benefit a cause. My son was diagnosed and treated for cancer a few years ago, and we were introduced to a specific fund that assists in families for paying bills, buying groceries, and such that cannot afford due to treatment. My plan is to make and sell soap (and possibly in the future candles). Now, I do want to recoup a portion of the sales for material costs and such, but want to donate a portion of the sales to the fund.

My problem is I am having a hard time finding out what needs to be done to create my buisness and expand my knowledge of soap making to ensure a good product LOL.

I know this is long, sorry  . I have a long road ahead of me, and hope you all can help me in my journey.

Thanks much and I hope to talk to you all soon!!

Welcome!
Please do loads of research here and ask every question you have. Most of the time we'll be able to help you. Keep in mind soapmaking is a craft that takes a long time to grow into a business.

Hi welcome to the forum and to soapmaking . Like dagmar said , research , research, research, take notes , test batches etc . What a great cause you are supporting :D

Hello and welcome! :)

I totally agree....lots of research here and other online soaping forums, ask tons of questions, make tons of test batches and see how they perform just after the 4 week cure AND 6 months later (not all soaps are stable for the long haul and can get rancid and get DOS....dreaded orange spots and stink).

Most of all, enjoy the journey! Soapmaking is fun and addictive.

Hello!

Just wanted to add my welcome and agree with everyone else about reading, researching, testing, and just as importantly having fun!! :)

hello, and welcome!

my best advice is read thru the many threads posted on the different forums-business, recipes and tutorials and c/p soaping.

at the top right of this page is a "search" feature which will help you look for specific info.

www.soap-making-essentials.com is a very informative site, along with her blog.

good luck with your endeavor-and don't be afraid to ask questions! :D

Research

Thank for all the welcomes. And yes, I am researching. I plan on tackling more complex CP recipes in the next few months. The thing I enjoy is the creativity.

I have a plan laid out to actually start the biz in two years, maybe sooner, but I know that there is a lot I need to learn. I have lots of guinea pigs at work that I am going to test the stuff out on LOL.

Thanks again!!
