Hi, i have been making Lotties Dog Shampoo from Humblebee. The first bar wouldn’t adjust for me with “a couple of drops” of citric 1:1 solution so i did a dump and the pH went down to 5. My second attempt i was careful and even after 14 drops of citric solution i could inly get it down to 7.2.

1) can i still use the 7.2 pH on my dog or should i try again and what am i doing wrong if i have to use more than “a couple of drops”?

2) can i use the pH of 5 on my hair as i really don’t want to toss it?

Thanks for any help.

What is your preservative? Some preservatives require a specific pH to be effective.

How are you testing pH?

A neutral pH of around 7 is recommended for dog's skin so pH 7.2 would be fine.

At pH 5, SCI is susceptible to hydrolysis in solution but I don't know how stable it would be in a bar format.

Helloooo! Thanks for responding.

I used Optiphen Plus for both bars, and i have a pH meter. I used 9gm distilled water with 1 gm soap. I tried to incorporate the soap and water as much as possible, but some would just mot dissolve.

I was thinking the pH 5 bar can be used by myself? It is pretty solid and i think will last a while. If anything i can use it to shave my legs 😆

I am glad the 7.2 oH bar can be used for the dog. I would hate to hurt the dog’s skin or even toss out the bar
