Nobody seems to know what it is! lol. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it. I can't even find it in any of the lye calculators

where did ya get it? are you sure youre not meaning shortening, that is made with soybeans?

you'll love your wooden mold! :D

since you like essentials oils, imho i believe that the litsea cubeba (may chang) is the best, most long lasting and affordable lemo scent. it is really pretty.

i've used lavandin instead of lavender-i really can't tell the difference, but my wallet sure does! :D

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to try that one. I'm also going to try lemongrass. i've heard good things about it helping to anchor the lemon scent for a lot longer too :) Great tip on the lavandin too, I'll search it out!

I haven't used lemongrass yet, but if it smells anything like lemon, I'll love it! I'm seriously a lemon nut. I loooove the taste and smell of lemon, so I often use it for cooking and cleaning. Now I'll use it for soaping too!

:D scales are so important to soapmaking! to get the most accurate measuremnt for lye may i suggest you convert it and weigh it in grams.

www.soapcalc.com is a soaper's best friend. take a little time and read the short info's on building a good soap bar. it calculates your lye, water-everything.

never used soy butter. but maybe 25% coconut-10% shea-65% palm, with an 8% superfat/lye discount. soap around 100 degrees.

www.soap-making-essentials.come has some great recipes, info and decorating ideas. you might wish to take a "peeky".

good luck with your new soap! :D

Thanks SO much! Good thing you posted this too lol, otherwise I was going to use 30% coconut, 40% palm and 30% shea butter, which might be greasy do you think?

I will definitely measure the lye in grams :)

The scale I got is sooo cute! I got it from Brambleberry (Their $20 one) and it's so compact and easy to use. There's only 2 buttons! I'm used to getting something new and having to read through a giant instruction manual. The instruction manual that came with this thing was like... half a page of paper hehe.

I'm off to make my first batch of soap!

I brought the same scale, it seems a good one but I noticed the weighing "pad" cracked straight down the center. I should have put it in a zip lock bag like I saw on the soap tutorials, but I just wiped it off...can't figure out how it cracked in two months of use.
