When i didnt know any better, my wooden molds frequently cracked my soap. I couldnt figure out why my tops were cracking. I googled for an answer and that is how i came to find this forum... so, yay to cracks!!! That was before i started soaping at room temp too so Im sure that didnt help things either.

I always soap at room temp, but the wooden mold I think is the culprit. I used thin silicone molds before this and I only had this problem with a orange spice soap I had made. S-M-R's silicone molds are looking better and better all the time.

Well here are today's pics of the soap.. not as crumbly as my first batch... in fact it was more the consistency of a very dense cheesecake. I probably could have waited to cut it, but the cracking on the top worried me, I thought it would act like my first one and just crumble to bits.

They look nice still. I think I need to stop going through the forum and make some of my own soap soon. My pigments just shipped today, so I won't get them for a few days still... so will be more boring colored soap.

Yeah I'm actually not worried about this batch...the scent toned down nicely. I mean you can still smell it from in my bedroom, but at least the whole house didn't smell like cherries when I cut into it lol.

Pretty! Good result, I think. Are you using tap water for your lye water? Our water is so hard here, or maybe try sticking your soaps in the fridge to help them not get as hot.

No I used distilled. I don't think that's the problem... I've been feeling them every 10 minutes or so, they're not hot... I don't get it

Very nice swirls...love the gold. I agree with Angelmamma....it looks like lemon maringue pie! So yummy!

Did you spray the top with rubbing alcohol to prevent soap ash? Maybe they got too dry. How about sugars like honey? Those heat up. Also make sure your lye and oils are within 20 degrees of each other. I am by no means an expert as you know, I'm just tryin to think of common problems.

No I didn't spray with alcohol, no additives, lye and oils were at 105. I can't wrap my head around it lol. Maybe it's because I didn't cover it? I'm going to cover my new batch today... I've been walking back and forth to my soaping room waiting for the lye to cool down... lol

I put m lye out in the garage. It's a little colder out there and I find the lye cools to an accePtable temp in about an hour. Where did ou order your lye from?
