Moldy Soap :(

Yesterday my friend and I made our 8th batch of soap. When I went to check on it...it had mold growing . Sidenote...we used a wooden box and lined it with wax paper. I am not sure what went wrong! This is depressing:-(

That's very weird. I don't think that it could be mold in less than a day. Do you have a picture? Also, listing what you put in the soap could help also.

Are you sure it was mold and not ash? The white chalking ash layer can look like a type of mold too.

Ash was what I thought of too. If you can post a picture, that would help.

This is the blundered creation in all it's glory. We used palm oil, olive oil, coconut oil and avocado oil.

Sounds like ash - highly unlikely that it would get moldy from one day to the next. You can scrape it off if it bothers you.

It didn't upload properly, all I see is an X in a box.

Looks like soda ash to me. Just wipe it off or spray with rubbing alcohol.

Yeah, that looks like mold....very weird. How long did you wait before you looked? It can' happen overnight. When I get soda ash, its a really light layer of fine white specks....not fuzzy looking or greenish.

Then again, maybe what I am seeing is the color in your soap?

no thats not soap color ...There was even mold on the box. Just a couple of days.

I think the white part looks like ash, especially since it's in other areas besides the greenish/brown area as well & the colored part looks like discoloration from a fragrance oil or something.

Sorry Earthweavers....it's tough to say from the pic. If you've had other batches that were successful I would advise to set this aside or whatever until you decide what to do with it. Maybe you can doctor it up, scrape it off and use it for yourself. Don't put it with your other soaps and just start again. Keep everything dry while it's curing. Soda ash is common and the only time I don't get it is when I cover my soap with saran wrap after I pour it. When it's ready to cut, I remove it and everything is shiny

I wouldn't use wax paper next time-it doesn't do a great job of being non-stick. I would try freezer paper or parchment paper. I learned the hard way with wax paper...it sticks a lot!

Thanks for the tip..Wax paper was also stuck to some of the soap too ugh!

I think that is what I will do try to doctor it up! My other batches have been successful..The first awful batch is always the toughest :neutral:.
