Hi there. I got a divider for a mold and I haven’t used it yet. If I pull it out and do nothing, will I get decent verticals stripes?

Yes. One hint - some of the batter will cling to the sides of the dividers. Either scrape it as you pull the dividers out, or pour a little higher than you normally would.

What do you mean by pouring it higher than normal? How does that prevent sticking?
I think she means that if you fill it up to the top of the mold, for example, after pulling the divider the soap will be below the top of the mold, so it will be shorter than the standard height, so by pouring more soap you compensate for that

OH I see now! Got it. Yes, I bought a mold taller than I wanted so I could cover them for fancy tops. So, I’ll just make it full.

What @glendam said. Sorry, I know that was worded poorly. I don't know if you would have to completely fill the mold - it depends on how tall your mold is and the size you want your soap to be.
haha! I thought you meant I had to hold the pitcher way up high to pour. Hahaha I’ve been watching drop swirl videos. It’s a 7.5lb mold 3.5”x3.5” and I want vertical stripes. I‘m hoping to make a flag. If you don’t think the stripes will be decent with this technique, I can just do a swirl. I’m hoping for 3 stripes though.

I think you should get decent stripes. The guides on the ends of the mold help keep the sections straight as you remove the dividers. If it doesn't really matter to you, make your normal size batch and have a slightly shorter than wide rectangle. Then you will know for the future if it is important to have the soap be perfectly square. It shouldn't be 'bigly' different.

The stripes will depend on how you cut the soap. I did a Taiwan swirl in a mold with dividers and cut it poorly - so it didn't look correct. You can't slice the soap like a regular loaf.

I think I can cut it regular if I’m looking for horizontal stripes.
Edit: I meant verticals stripes.

Though one must consider that Edgar Allan Poe wrote his best stuff while drunk, though ink and paper are not caustic like lye is, so in second thought, yes, I second your advise! lol
I never SUI (soap under the influence). mostly because I always forget something if I do. My only real indulgence are a couple glasses off wine when I’m done.

I am attempting to make an Irish flag. So, I hope this works out!

Sadly, 2 glasses of wine at any time, whether before or after soaping, puts me on the floor these days!

Looking forward to seeing your resulting flag. I have the same divider but have never used it. You've inspired me to try.
