Microwave or Double-Boiler For LBs?

I have been using the double-boiler method for making lotion bars, can I use the microwave? I have seen some LB recipes that say "Do not microwave" and wondered if there is a reason for it. I microwaved a small batch for lip balm for my fiance and it turned out fine. Thanks!!

I have always microwaved mine. Never heard you shouldn't.

I think either is fine but the key is to not overheat it otherwise some butters (like shea) can go grainy.

I microwave from hardest to softest (beeswax, then throw in the cocoa butter, etc.) For shea, I stir it into the melted oils rather than nuking it. Keeps it from getting grainy.

I agree with Silver Maple re microwave use.
The heat produced in microwaves is often intense in pockets and hard to control. Whereas a the double boiler or bain marie method is much more gentle for balm recipes that may contain shea, or oils and butters that can be damaged with too much high heat.
