When i first got into soaping, i was inspired by this set of pictures (they might have been the inspiration that got me to soap in the first place!), and looking at them again now i noticed an interesting mold. It looks like a stainless steel tube mold with doors on one end to seal it, and it looks like it includes a special pusher for getting the soap out of the mold.

Where could i find one of these? I saw something like it in this thread: http://www.soapmakingforum.com/forum/vi ... +push+mold except the one i've got my eye on is made of steel and has the pusher thingy. It looks like such a handy mold and that heart shape is so perfect for making gifts. I've just got to have one! If anyone's seen one for sale anywhere, more info would be much appreciated!

I think someone posted a link once for them at a baking supply site. Hopefully someone will remember and chime in.
But remember, if they are aluminium they are no good for cp soap.

Good call on the aluminum. I primarily do hot process, but it would be a good idea to check the material for peace of mind. I'll keep that in mind if/when i do get my hands on one of these, thanks!

Mold aside - look at that CUTTER!!! :::swoon::

Ditto x infinity! :D Thats one fancy piece of equipment....

ETA: it even attaches to the table for stability..What dyu think those other two stainless pieces of equipment are? I'm guessing more cutters-those bars she's cutting are rather large, need cutting down further. The cutting frames would slide down the ss uprights I think....wow..either they cost the gdp of a small country,or she made them...(who is it,do you know?)

I believe she goes by "the soap lady" and has had a soapmaking business for many years. The whole operation looks very professional, i wouldn't be surprised if she made a sizable investment for those cutters. I found another pic of her using that other cutter.

The way it's used reminds me of an apple corer, lol.

oh i love those cutters!

so where's this lady's site? I wanna dream : )

If you look at the Soap Lady's website, you'll see a bunch of those heart soaps, so she apparently still uses that mold. I'll bet if you emailed her, she'd tell you where to get it.

I was just looking at her gallery and what has me baffled is I don't see any liners in those wooden molds????? :?: :?: :?:

Yep, that's the site! The one that started it all... so she's the culprit! lol. I noticed on her site she said she doesn't share soap recipes. Would it be rude to ask her where she got the mold, like it's a trade secret or something? I'm so terrible with direct communications like this, always afraid i'll offend.

Now that you mention it, that is odd about the wood molds. Maybe they've been waxed or specially treated?

hiw come she doesnt have an ingredient list? i always see one when i go to other sites, or at least i do a most of them.

Interesting, I notice most of her rectangular bars are perfectly beveled. Pretty soaps.

ETA, I found this in her Q&A section:
Q: What are the ingredients in your soap?

A: All of my soaps contain the following saponified oils and natural ingredients:

Olive oil, an emollient
Coconut oil for lather (except castle soap)
Beef tallow as a base
Organic oils for scent (no perfumes)
Vitamin E, Nature's deodorant
Castor oil, to help prevent bathtub ring
Food coloring (no dyes)

That IS interesting. Especially the part about using food coloring for the dyes (actually I think technically food coloring is a dye....) because I have read in so many books that you shouldn't use it for soap.

Huh, didn't know those images were copyrighted. Sorry about that.

I rather liked the idea of using food coloring for soap, figuring if it's safe to eat, it's definitely safe for soap. I've used food coloring in my soaps before, though they only work with hot process after the cook. Anytime i've put them in at trace or while lye was still active, they've usually discolored to red. Also, they can stain your tub or washcloth if you use too much, but that applies to all dyes/colorants, right?

Most of the books I've read said that food coloring will fade with time and light exposure. I reckon I could try it myself, but eh.

food coloring is problematic because it can change dramatically depending on the pH - but if she knows what she's getting... whatever

if she's using MP soap it's LESS of a problem, but still a high pH product if it's still a true soap.

dunno about the fading.

but castor oil prevents a tub ring? uh... not.
sulfonated castor oil (turkey red) can help in bath oils and such, but not regular castor and not in soap.

I can help

Is it a heart that you are looking for? If you go to soapmoldsuperstore.com and scroll down on the main page you will see a loaf with a heart in the center. The mold for the heart is available by itself. The site is still under construction but if you have any questions just send an email and I can clarify for you.

the mold in the picture was interesting. it was a metal heart, looked kinda like a candle mold or one of those pampered chef molds, but there was a plunger of sorts, also heart shaped, I guess to push the soap out with. looked very substantial.
