I bought this product in December and I don't have a clue now why! In researching, seems like it will help the bubbles in soap.... is this something that could be used in CP soap as a regular thing to increase bubbles? TIA

I don't know anything about your particular surfactant, but yes you can make a combination bar of synthetic detergent + soap.

The topic comes up occasionally -- there's a thread from this past January that might give you some ideas -- Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate Powder in CP soap

The search term that gave me some useful results is "combar" -- Search results for query: combar

Thank you! I have no interest in making a syndet bar so I will have to dig around to figure out why I bought this stuff... I likely came across a recipe for something that included this ingredient.

I have some for making syndet shampoo bars. For the record, I had no interest in making those for a long time... but now I make them and LOVE them.

I LOVE not having bottles clogging up my shower stall or my recycle bin.

I LOVE that I can pack that one bar when I have to travel, instead of fiddling with leaky shampoo bottles and pulling out my bag of liquids for TSA (I'm always TSAPre but when they don't have a Pre line open, then we have to do all the things that Pre is supposed to bypass).

I LOVE that I don't have shampoo waste from the amount that drips off my hair before it gets sudsy.

I LOVE choosing the ingredients and the scent for my shampoo, instead of accepting what someone else tells me to like.

All that to say, maybe sometime you will want to try a shampoo bar, too. It is a bit of work, but no more than making CP soap. :)

ETA: @SPowers maybe you bought it to make bath bombs? As a brand-name version of SLSa, it is a fairly common ingredient for those.

I agree. I aso didn't plan on making shampoo bars at first, but when I learned that you can't use regular soap on hair I decided to give it a go. I'm glad I did. I make shampoo and conditioner bars and my hair has never been softer. The best part is, I found a fragrance oil dupe of the old Herbal Essences shampoo that I used all through the 90's that was discontinued sometime in the 2000's. I loved that shampoo and people would randomly tell me my hair smelled great! I was so disappointed when it was discontinued.

Here's the link in case anyone else wants some: Herbal Essence Fragrance Oil | BrambleBerry

I made shampoo bars and while I really wanted them to be good for my hair, they weren't. This is making me think of doing it much more. Thanks for all the input.

Everyone's hair is different. If you didn't like the shampoo you made, it probably wasn't good for your hair type. I used the information on swiftcraftymonkey.blog to formulate a shampoo and conditioner to work for my hair type. There are guides there on all the things you can swap in and out of the recipe depending on how oily, dry, thin, thick, etc. your hair is.

@SPowers I understood you to be saying that you tried soap as shampoo, not syndet bars. Is that correct? If you did make a syndet bar that wasn't to your liking, I totally agree with @Quanta that you can reformulate it into something you like. Because the solid shampoo is made of the same basics as liquid shampoo - just minus the water.

One thing you can do is look at the ingredients of a liquid shampoo that you like. That will give you some idea of the ingredients you might want in your syndet shampoo bar. Not all of them are easy for a beginner to use, but many of them are. And the SwiftyCraftyMonkey blog can educate you about most of them.

Hope you give it a whirl and report back with your results!
