I'm wanting to make a new soap for kids with some Essential Oils. I was thinking about lavender and peppermint, but I have some tangerine that smells wonderful. Anyone got any ideas about what would go good with tangerine ? Or do you have any other ideas about a kid friendly soap scent with essential oils?

Tangerine doesn't hold up well in CP soap - oranges are funny that way.

Kid friendly EO scents are hard to come by, IMO. Spearmint is good, maybe peppermint (don't go too strong on it, though).

Hi,
I've never made soaps for kinds, but I've read it is best to use very little EOs in this case, because the oils could be irritating.

So said, I personally think a nice vanilla flavouring (I use the same I use in cakes) could be a great, sweet smell for kids.

Vanilla flavoring will hold up in cp soap? Never thought about that; but it would be wonderful!

when you say "doesnt hold up well", do you mean the scent will fade? What other citrus scents do you recommend?

My kids (both girls) love lemongrass or litsea cubeba in combination with any citrus EO, lavender in combo with any citrus EO, and lime, ginger, cinnamon, and mint. They also like vanilla and almond FOs if you want to go that route.

p.s. lemongrass or litsea will "anchor" lighter citrus EOs like orange, lime or grapefruit and help them to stick longer.

Do you not worry about the photosensitivity from the citrus EOs? I have a HUGE bottle of Sweet Orange but I can't use it with good conscience knowing it could make skin vulnerable to light. I love it though...I use it in cleaning products for my own household so far.

My kids love the litsea, lemongrass, and lavender spearmint...

I thought the photosensitivity was for a leave on product??

Anyway, my grandsons like mint and litsea. A touch of calendula petals beat into the oil makes a lovely yellow to go with the lemony litsea.

They love cinnamon and sugar FO.

My nephews like vanilla and lemon and apple (not mixed) .

Thanks Everyone!
I have some lime and some lemongrass, maybe I will try that out and see how it goes. I'm going to order some of the litsea, from the name I would have never thought to buy it :)

To make it last longer, I mix it with a teaspoon of rice flour, which is a good natural fixative. So far I got pretty good results, and I love the vanilla smell!
