Does anyone happen to know what these are? They smell similar to lilacs, but milder. If they are something recognizable, I could look up whether or not I could use them.
They look somewhat like a hydrangea, but I've never seen one like this, before.
It's an oak leaf hydrangea. There are many different varieties, but you can tell by the shape of the leaves. And unlike regular hydrangeas, oak leaf hydrangea leaves turn beautiful colors in the fall. http://www.wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=HYQU3
