I made a goat milk soap for the first time today and I forgot to strain the lye solution. Is there an easy way to check if there are any undissolved lye crystals in the soap? I'm so sad as I feel l I'm going to have to get rid of the batch. I used frozen milk cubes.
Thank you for your help

What was your superfat level? I don't use frozen liquid cubes so I'm not familiar with that technique. I use lye and distilled water. I have never strained my lye solution and visually can see that all the lye is dissolved. Good luck to you.

I wouldn't worry about it. I rarely strain my lye solution and have never (in almost 10 years) had an issue with undissolved lye. As long as you stirred it well before pouring into your oils, it will be fine.

I also have never strained my lye, if you dissolve it to the point of not seeing it anymore that should be enough. If you are straining it and there are crystals remaining in the sieve, you haven't stirred it enough. Throw the strainer away.

@Relle the OP was using milk. I don’t strain my lye solution when using water, but I do if I can’t see that the lye has all dissolved. That said, I don’t remember ever having any undissolved lye remaining.

I know they were using milk, I don't strain mine using milk or water, same as Kiwi if you stir very well, it should be fine.
