Been reading through these forums for two weeks. Very informative.

I have not made any soap or anything yet. Have some supplies coming though. Hot process is where I plan to start.

I have pomace olive oil and lye coming. A friend bought me a 16 oz. container of extra virgin coconut oil. The coconut oil I tried looking up what type it was and sap value but nothing is coming of the research yet.

Hello and welcome to the Friendliest Forum...IMHO.... 8)

I would recommend developing a relationship with the supplier you like the best and to make sure you are comparing prices espeically on Coconut Oil. I've found that the price for CO in Health Food Stores is 2 - 3 times what it costs through my supplier.

You are going to totally love this addition and we're always happy to have a new one join our ranks.

Cheers

Only 2-3 here I found CO at 6.3 cents per ounce froma bulk supplier and at the health food store it's 2.50 an oz (well one brand it) - So yes please shop around

Hello and welcome! :)

If your friend got it from a health food store, you can go to http://www.soapcalc.com and use the 76 deg coconut oil to calculate the recipe.

Pomace and coconut huh? You have the two oils necessary to make some lovely soap. Keep us posted on how it turns out, and of course.....pictures please!

Thanks for the replies.

I am pretty sure the coconut oil was bought at walmart if that makes any difference.

I will post pictures.

You are new to this and I think most of us have that experience indelibly printed on our minds, hearts and possibly it is seeping out our foreheads.
Okay , your nervous , thats good ,it means you are really engaged in this whole process called soaping.
I am not myself always the best when it comes to research ,but I certainly did it for soap. So may I suggest you read and reread anything you can find in the library and on the net on soaping.
See the search box above. Use that often. Type in anything that springs to mind and see what comes up.
Your first soap will turn out just fine.
We WILL have photos of it here or in the Gallery, pretty please.
You ;like me at the beginning have small and expensively priced oils.
It wont be too far down the track and you will be amazed at how cheap you can purchase soap in larger quantities.
Now hopefully I haven't overwhelmed you , but I now will sugest you look up this link and read it few a few times

That should get the old soap suds swirling around in the brain.
It shouldn't be too long and you will be eating ,dreaming and sleeping soap.
All the best.
