Hello hello - I've been looking through the forum and what a lovely bunch of people you all are :) Just thought I'd say 'hi' and I shall be posting very soon on a few of the boards.

Hey there, Pete, welcome to the board. There are a good number of UK soapers here, I think it will be really helpful to you w/r/t to finding materials. Plus people are really nice and helpful.

Hello

I live in the uk :)

Some tips I have picked up from the other uk members of this forum are

Lye can be purchased from wilkos or homebase. Look for caustic soda, it must be 100% sodium hydroxide do not get drain cleaners these are not the same, they contain other chemicals as well.

Try a local Asian shop for oils, mine sells castor oil (this is now hard to get from the chemists here, boots have stopped selling it), they also have other oils like sweet almond, rice bran, coconut oil etc. If you live near a large supermarket check the world foods isle, I find the oils are cheaper from this part of the store than the main shop.

The use of lard is the best tip I picked up from here, very cheap and easy to buy.

Enjoy your new hobby, keep us updated with how you get on.

Thank you all for making me feel welcome! Also, that's good to know where to visit for materials, happyshopper. I found that TK Maxx sell huge amounts of Epsom, sea and Himalayan salt quite cheaply too. It's one of those products that they randomly have round the till, so I'm not sure if it's a regular thing... Either way, I look forward to making lots of new and interesting things so I'll be sure to keep you all in the know :)
