I just want to finally say hello after lurking for a while and soaking up all sorts of info. Today I actually made my first batch of soap ever ( hot processed soap via the crock-pot method). As a foodie who blogs, I believe I have found a new obsession! My boyfriend thinks I'm insane. Soap making for me allows me to still be creative in the kitchen less all the calories. I cant wait to get my hands on more supplies.

Here is my first soap. I have to cure it for a few weeks.Yes it's brown. but I don't mind. I'm proud of it.

Ground Vanilla Bean & Spiced Oatmeal.

( Ground Ginger, Cinnamon, etc) My formula was what I had on hand. A lot of stuff from my pantry.

Almond Oil Sweet 2 oz. 4.969 %
Beeswax 1 oz. 2.484 %
Coconut Oil 12 oz. 29.814 %
Goose Fat 4 oz. 9.938 %
Lard 11 oz. 27.329 %
Olive Oil 7.25 oz. 18.012 %
Sesame Seed Oil 3 oz. 7.453 %

And a superfat of 5% of mixed sesame, almond, olive

Ingredients are expensive so I utilized a lot of food oils and fats. So far the smell is OK and not to heavy as I would think with the lard and sesame oil.
:D :D :D :D

Hello coco -

I'm glad you stopped lurking and chose to share. The soap looks great and sounds yummy! You'll have to let us know how well it lathers after curing.

Looks like a nice, comforting bar.

P.S. Just so you know there is no need to add any oil at trace. The lye is still active at this point and it will take whatever it wants. the only exception would be if you add any oil(s) after the cook. Calculate all your oils and or butters right up front.

Looks fabulous! You did a great job with the crinkle cutter too. :D

Thank you Soap Buddy. I actually added the super fat after the cook with the oatmeal. So much to learn with all the fats/oils and which works best.

Yes that's the tricky part. Thanks.

Your soap looks really beautiful. Congratulations! I'm curious to hear how the goose fat worked out. I've heard that chicken fat isn't so great for soap; maybe goose fat is better. Welcome!

I had a lot left rendered from Thanksgiving in the freezer. Its so clear. My great aunts have some old folklore about it for all sorts of remedies. So I figured why not add it to the soap. Only used a small amount.
