Hi There,

I am having problems with colouring my soaps. I bought the gel food colouring (I think it is Wiltons or Wiltshire?)....anyway I was wondering if I should mix it with water or something because it is hard to blend and I am getting little tiny speckles. Is there a better product/technique?

Thanks!!

Candice

are you using them for CP soap? if so, most colors do not survive the lye monster. if you are using them for MP, i don't have any idea because i don't do MP :)

Having color problems

Food color dyes really do not work out well in CP soap. I believe they can be used in M&P but there is substantial fading when those soaps are exposed to light. There are food color-type dyes that are formulated especially to work and hold in M8P. Eventually, given long term light exposure those soaps will fade as well. For coloring CP, you can use some micas and oxides that are soap safe. I use them from time to time and they hold up well. Sometimes you can get a shade from the gelled soap that you were not expecting. FOs and the color of your oils will influence the final color. I know that there are dyes out there made for CP soap specifically but I do not have much experience with them, myself. Some one will chime in here who has used them, I am sure. What I do know is that the food colors you are using are perfectly safe but you will not get lasting results from them. They are weak for soap and the lye monster will go to town on them.

Thanks Guys,

It is for CP soap....I haven't done M&P. If anyone out there can recommend a website that sells great colours for CP I would be very grateful!! I got these gel colours from sweet cakes and they were recommended for CP but as I am having troubles I would love some tried and true advice.

Thanks for the help!!! I am making soap for Christmas gifts this year and want them to be really lovely.

TKB Trading has some lovely pop mica colors that are fantastic for CP. I got the sample packet and have gotten beautiful vibrant colors that I'd never been able to achieve before.

Wow, wow, wow........I just visited the TKB Trading website and can't wait to pick from their amazing selection! Sooo happy I had troubles with the food colouring as they have so many more options than the food colourings anyway.

Thanks Ruby Slippers!!!
