Hand sculpting soap

I wouldn't call what i did hand "sculpting" exactly. But, I did make a batch of coal soap for Christmas the other day and "carved" the nicks and gouges in it that would be evident on actual coal lumps. Does that count at all? I think carving (as long as the soap is hard enough) would work very well. And, you could repair any damaged areas with a little water and the heat from your hands if it hasn't cured too long. I would love to carve something with a big chunk of soap :)

I have thought a lot about doing that and have done a very little bit with embeds. It's working with it at the proper stage that's the problem. If I want to embed it, I try to do it without gel, which is still pretty caustic. You could do it after gel when it's in the firm cheese texture stage. Might have to try something simple once. Have you done a carving?
