Hii soapmaking community hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. My name is Bárbara, I just got into soap making as a way of using more natural products with, and minimizing the amount of plastic.. besides being a newbie soap maker I’m an outrigger canoe instructor, that means picking up a ton of plastic bottles in the water unfortunately. Happy to be here, and excited for the new friends and new discoveries soap making has for me. On the attachment below is my first soap, its olive oil with coconut oil, and pink clay, I added lavender and peppermint, but i don't think the scent was that anchored by the time it was done. Here in Brazil everything is so expensive at the moment, olive oil is a luxury.. been thinking about using brazilian oils, such as Urucum oil, I looked up the translation is Roucou oil, has anyone used that before? Anyways thank you once again for making this adventure possible. 🙏🏽 God bless

Welcome! I have a couple of Brazilian oils but haven't used them yet, now I will try them since there is someone who can explain the qualities of them to me! Your first try looks a lot better than my first attempt, congratulations! If you have questions you have come to the right place, everyone is friendly and the advice is top-notch! I am quite envious that you live in a warm climate, I live in the middle of the U.S. and it is rather cold here four months of the year, we are fairly cold tonight at 0 degrees C, last week it was -23.9 C. Take care.

Welcome! My first soap was nowhere near as smooth and symmetrical as yours - you are off to a great start! I haven't heard of the oils you mentioned, but perhaps the manufacturers can give you a SAP value that you can plug into the soap calculator. Or that you can tell us so we can help you with that. :)
Thank you for your feedback! Ill ask the oil producer the SAP value for Roucou oil in order to plug in manually in the soapcalculator. Thank you!!

Welcome!

Roucou oil may be annatto seed oil. But this is the result of a Google search so🤷🏿‍♂️
Thank you! Just looked that up and it seems roucou oil is the same as annattoo seed oil, I guess the name changes from place to place.. another fellow soap maker suggested me to ask the soap manufacturer the SAP value, I’ll be double checking before giving it a try. Will update soon. Thank you once again for such a warm welcome. Everything goes so much smoother when we have fellow soap makers by our side. 🙏🏽

Welcome! Thats a gorgeous color! I unfortunately know nothing about Brazilian oils but hopefully someone can help.
When in doubt make some with what you have and let us know the results. We are curious people.
Thank you!! Ill be definitely keep everyone updated on my soapmaking. Its amazing to have such dedicated and welcoming people on this community. 🙏🏽

Thank you for your feedback! Count on me on anything you need, I can help with translations, what brazilian oils do you have? Here in my city is warm all year around, not even near 10° C. Here its summer now, pretty humid, during the day we get up to 37° 40°, at night around 20°. Coconut oil never gets solid 😅
