Thanks for the link. The only mold I don't mind lining is my 4# log because it is 18" long and so is the freezer paper. I use foam for the two short ends. This could be a real timesaver. :)

Thanks for posting this!

I bet it would be even easier if you were making the molds yourself. You could spread the silicone on them before even assembling the mold and I bet it would go on a lot smoother.

I might have to try this before I go ahead and order some new acrylic molds online!

I did this with the same molds and it's still a bit difficult to remove because the wood mold is not very flexible.

So, I still kind of line my molds. I take one long strip of freezer paper and lay it in the mold lengthwise so that they hang over the sides. It still takes a bang or two on the counter but once loosened I can pull on the paper and it comes right out. Then just wipe the mold clean. I do think it was worth it. Mine just doesn't work as well as stated in the tutorial.

For those of you who can't see it, it's a tutorial on how to use silicone caulking to coat your wooden molds so that you don't have to line with paper.

Jola, I wonder if there is a difference in silicone? or the thickness of it? If my husband has some on hand I am going to give it a try too.

I used the same stuff the lady talked about in the tutorial.
And I did 2 thin layers as stated.

If you read all of that post you will find many people did NOT have the same success she did.

I think it has a lot more to do with the non flexibility than the silicone.

I still just love my silicone baking type pans for soap. Their so flexible you can pop the stuff right out. I haven't found a a good log one yet (they all tapper down, I only buy them at yard sales and thrift stores so I can't be too picky)

Speaking of yard sales Jola, I was at one saturday and he had a wine box. PERFECT with a lid!!! I was so excited:) I love finds like that!

I do not remember reading anything over at the dish about not posting links. I have not been active there in years though so I guess things cold have changed.
