What do you all think about using a combination of cetyl alcohol and stearic acid during dilution to thicken up liquid soap during dilution? Does it have any benefit over using only stearic acid (gentleness, conditioning properties)? Or am I just spinning my wheels 😂

I have been experimenting using Irish Lass’s creamy soap method with a different recipe.

I've never tried cetyl alcohol in LS. My best guess is that you would need something to keep it from separating. The stearic always separates a bit on me as it is, even with PS80 added.

If you do try it, please report back - I'd be super interested to hear how it worked out!

Ok, so I tried it. At first, not all the cetyl alcohol homogenized and I was left with what looked like puffy little marshmallows floating at the top even after cooling. I hypothesized that there might not be enough oils left in the batch for it to bind to. I still had not added in my marula super fat at this point. So, I heated it up, added 2% marula, and stick blended while adding some hpmc. It has been about a week and I don’t notice any more unusual separation. I will post a picture in a little bit. Overall, it’s a very nice soap!

I did add PS 80 to the marula before adding it in.
