Hey all!

Long time lurker here, and finally created an account because I can’t find the answer to my question!

I’m new to soaps, but have made about 10 batches and am looking to start messing with scents. The soaps I make are all natural, so I’m planning on sticking to essential oils vs fragrance.

However, I’ve done a lot of research on them and I keep getting conflicting mixed information. I’ll use Rose EO as an example.

Everywhere I’ve read, TRUE Rose EO is incredibly expensive and not worth the cost. However, I go on Amazon and can find 4oz of “Rose” Essential Oil for $15. I realize that there is something fishy there, it’s clearly not legit rose essential oil. I’ve been able to find all the EO scents I want to use in 4oz sizes for $15 or less!

So my question is, is it really so bad to use the “fake stuff”?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks everyone!

I ended up doing some very extensive research yesterday while I was waiting for my post to be approved. I came to the same conclusion unfortunately. The prices were too good to be true!

I ended up placing a $150 order from New Direction Aromatics at the recommendation of some other soapers on this thread. Spendy, but it’ll be worth it!!

Yup, don't risk it. If you buy from someone who sells soap making supplies you get another plus - they can usually give you info about how the particular fragrance (EO or FO) behaves in soap, especially CP, along with the usage rates. Always look for that kind of info, a lot of fragrances are just not okay for soap
