I'm currently making rectanglar soaps that are 7/8" X 2" X 3" and I think those are nice proportions. If I add a medium and a large size, do you think I should just add a percentage to the above, or create slightly different proportions? Hopefully, these are for retailing. Thanks for any ideas on sizes.

My standard is 1 x 2.5 x 3.5 which I believe a lot of soapers use when selling. I know Soap Hutch does their standard logs in these measurements. This is a nice size bar (and my fave) for sure but I would say more medium than large. Soapers who do large do really large it seems from my browsing. So maybe I would rethink your proportions if I had to choose.

But if you don't want to do that just cut bigger. For medium I would cut more than 1 inch though since most soap seems to already be 1 inch thick.

Do you sell yet? If so does your customer base like your size or do you have requests for larger bars. I would go on what my customers think especially the long term ones.

Stinkydancer... thanks. Exactly the type of info I was looking for. I didn't mention... I felt my soap, so it actually turns out almost the same size as yours. Not selling yet. Keep your fingers crossed...lol.

I'll keep them crossed for you. :) It's a process to get there but you will get there. When you do, you'll see better what your base wants.
All people really know is 5 ounces or whatever ounces. Mine cure out to roughly a little under 5 but almost 5 and most people enjoy that size and it lasts for them.
Good luck in your selling ventures!

Well, I just sold over 300 soaps this weekend, and I can definitely say "size matters" (winkwinknudgenudge)
My soaps are all about 6.5 oz - 3.5"x2.5"x1.5" - some tops are swirly and taller and my salt bars and "limited edition" bars are 7 oz squares.
Most people appreciated the value they were getting for such a large "hefty" bar and commented so...I haven't had anyone complain that they were "too big"...except my sister who says they are too big for her hands :p
I think most soapers go for about 3.5"x2.5"x1" - 5oz bars.

Alchemy&Ashes that is awesome! I did peak over at the other forum area and your soaps are quite beautiful and what an elegant display you set up.

Wow... gorgeous soap, beautiful displays. My sister has sold both 4 ounce and 5 plus ounces. Unfortunately, she didn't track sales rate, so we learned nothing from what could have been an interesting experiment. I am a guy with fairly large hands, and I like my size better than hers. Now... it is within the realm of possibility that I am not 100% objective. (And I believe it's "nodnodwinkwinknudgenudge, knowwhatImean? KnowwhatImean? KnowwhatImean.")
