Soapcalc and soap friend numbers differ

Excellent points! I’m making soap over at the families house for the holidays, and I’m thinking of making 100% coconut oil soap with 20% super fat. A simple soap but yet fun to make!

Mixing liquids with hard oils and heat at same time??

Hello again! So I was just wondering if I had to do the extra step of melting the hard oils and then adding the liquid oils to the melted hard oils. Or if I could just put all of my oils in the container together and microwave until they’re all melted and clear? is there a difference in the...

Soapcalc and soap friend numbers differ

Hi all! So I just signed up for the membership year of soap, making friend as a soap calculator. I initially really liked it as it saves so many recipes and has an easier way of reviewing all the recipes at the same time with the corresponding values, etc. But have noticed that the conditioning...

    Soap gelled???

I just did another batch, checked it after 35 mins, and I saw gelling on the outsides- Vaseline, I know gelling starts in the middle so I guess it was completing gel phase? It looked like it was starting to gel from outsides- me and my strange soap!!

    Soap gelled???

Thanks so much for the reply! I’ve been spoke soaping for over 10 years and with this new recipe, I have it makes it difficult to determine if it’s gelled unless I see the full gel in the oven and then it just overheats. I’ll just do some more experimentation and if I see a full gel, I’ll pull...

    Soap gelled???

Hi all! I have been experimenting with different temperatures with CPAP and trying to figure out if my soap is gelling. Couple batches definitely gelled and overheated with the alien brain. They are super glossy and shiny, wacky looking. I did another batch and I tested the temperature and the...

Lye causing finger infections, am I the only one?

Well, actually I'm positive its the lye...forgot to mention that my fingernail turns yellow-its right after soaping...I've used the gloves to cut onions/garlic before with no adverse reaction... I'm thinking its in the cleanup, after I've taken my gloves off :( I shall work toward safer...

Lye causing finger infections, am I the only one?

Hi everybody!!! First question I know you have is "do I wear gloves?", right? Yes, I wear those disposable gloves that come in a box, found in laundry aisle. I like those as opposed to the more rigid, reusable gloves because I theyre more flexible and its so much easier to soap, add colors...

Hi all! I soaped with “shave n haircut” FO from B.B. and it accelerated and riced a bit- by time I was texturing my top all the colors blended together and made an ugly colored/ alligator skin- yuck! So my question is how to pretty up the tops?? Should I carve off the top to reveal a nicer...
