Do you pasteurize your goats milk before making soap?

And goats don't pee or poo while you're milking them!

Do you pasteurize your goats milk before making soap?

No need for preservatives. Kinda defeats the purpose of keeping things as natural as possible. I had 2 friends try GM for the first time the other night. Neither said they could taste a difference, yet they were extremely apprehensive of "raw" milk that I squeezed out of my goats. I bet...

New and Terrified of Sodium Hydroxide

It's really not such a big deal. I don't like to use gloves because I want to be in control and gloves can slip on my small hands. Yeah, it'll sting a little if it splashes on you, but nothing worse than hot water. It's good to be aware that it can burn, however it's nothing to be afraid of...

Can you make GM soap by HP

The only thing that makes milk curdle is acid (lemon/lime juice) or enzymes. Heat has nothing to do with it. It may smell a little burnt because of the milk sugars, so keep temps low and you should be OK.

    Lye Heavy Soap...Laundry Soap?

I have my first lye heavy batch, and of course it's my largest yet. Looks like some of the lye didn't dissolve on the bottom of my bowl, and the top of my soap has little dots, looks like white poppy seeds. Only thing it can be is lye. Can I grate it down and use it for laundry soap, or is it...

Pine Tar - HP - with pictures added

A close friend of mine has psoriasis on her scalp. If I make it for her, does she wash her hair with it, or try to rub it only on her psoriasis patches?

    Goat milk soap question

That recipe is crap. The author has no idea of what he/she is doing. You're better off just googling soap recipes or making up your own on soapcalc. I only make GM soaps and besides the freezing before use, there is really no difference in making it. Even then, you don't have to freeze it if...

    Another question...SORRY!

FO's with vanilla in them do discolor the soap. The question is, how much? Some only produce a tan color, where others are very dark brown. It can take days to weeks to fully change the color, so I'd say to do a 1lb test to see what the color will look like after 30 days. Then you'll know if...

    Cocoa Butter

What percentages work well for cocoa butter? I always kept it low at about 5% and haven't noticed anything special about it. Kinda ticked because I bought 5lbs! Any tips or tricks with it?

    Castille Soap

I love the look of castille, and also the ease of making it. It's also great for sensitive skin so long as you don't add any FO or color. I'm not a fan of the way it feels on my skin, though. I find that it is really slimy and hard to wash off. Then again, I have well water that's mineral...

    Goats milk

I don't pasteurize any of my GM either. Lots of times my soap milk is the milk that is the oldest and on its way to spoiling. Never had an issue with it. I also use milk as 100% of the liquid, so if it was going to go bad in the soap, I'd probably know by now.

    Vanilla FO color change...any photos?

I'll take a photo when I get home from work. Right now it looks just like the canned pumpkin. Kinda surprised that with the milk sugar and the pumpkin sugar, I only had a hint of partial gel. I was sure it was going to be a partial gel hell.

    Vanilla FO color change...any photos?

I made the most beautiful pumpkin soap last night with pumpkin puree and vanilla pumpkin pie FO. I already know the gorgeous pumpkin color is going to turn ugly brown but I wanted to know what I was in for. Does anyone have photos of the color change? At what age does the color stay the way it is?

    I feel so ignorant. . .

A little lick is a good way of making sure the gremlins didn't come and mess with your scale. I've only had one zappy soap and that was because I licked it on the same day it was made. By the next day, no zap. Lick some fresh soap so you know what too look for!

    Rebatching question

What are you going to rebatch? Do you already have CP/HP soap made from someone else?

Circle in the center of soap pc

Do a quick search on "partial gel". This is what you have. Not harmful at all and the soap can still be used. Next time either wrap the soap in a towel after you pour it into the mold, or pop it right into the freezer after you pour.

White thin crust growing on week old soap

Yep, just ash. Not harmful in any way.

    Gelling vs Non-Gelling

I try not to gel. Ungelled soaps look creamier and more opaque. I soap cool and stick the mold in the freezer. Some say it takes longer to saponify and it may zap for a bit longer, but I've never experienced any zap on either gelled or ungelled soaps. Try both ways and see which you like better...
