I've probably spend the last almost two years studying and researching the process of soap making and I think I'm pretty good at it by this point but I feel so dumb.

What in the world is "zappy," "zapping," and what's up with a tongue test thing? I've never come across these terms.

Please, please! can someone enlighten me so I know what you guys are talking about? Thank You!

lick your soap. if it zaps like a 9V battery, it's alkaline (lye heavy) and needs to either cure longer or be rebatched, depending on how off the calculations were.

you dont lick it like a dog, yo touch the tip of your tongue to it to feel if you get a tingly zap when you do. if not, yo are all good. if so, let the soap sit for a few more days and try again. :D

I never put my tongue on a whole soap bar. Instead, I get a tiny piece, I press it on my hand and I tongue like this.

A little lick is a good way of making sure the gremlins didn't come and mess with your scale. I've only had one zappy soap and that was because I licked it on the same day it was made. By the next day, no zap.

Lick some fresh soap so you know what too look for!

I never zap test my soaps unless I feel something has gone wrong and even then never before the 2nd day of making the soap. It's more a tingling than a zap if you only use the very tip of tongue
