Clear CP soap not possible, right?

I would be curious to know the definitive answer to this as well. As far as I know, transparent soaps are NOT possible using the cold process method. However, I am by no means an expert. I know that transparent soaps can be made using a variation of the hot process method.

Is there a good substitute oil for olive oil

I like the rice bran oil from Riceland as a substitute for olive oil. I know that others have had great luck with HO sunflower or HO safflower. I haven't used the HO safflower, but unfortunately I haven't had the best results with the HO sunflower. I love the HO sunflower for liquid...

    Stearic Acid question

If you're finding the soap drying, it might be the coconut oil. Coconut can be VERY cleansing and strip the natural oils from your skin. Also, although I love castor oil in soap, at much more than 10% it can make a soft sticky bar. You might try lowering the castor to 10%, lowering the...

    Furbaby Friday

Ok, here are my (not-so-little) monsters. They're spoiled rotten, but I love them anyway. First up is Jacob, my 3 year old, 65 pound pitbull. He's a happy boy and as sweet as can be. I always say that if someone broke in to my house that I would be dead, everything I own would be gone, and...

    Glow in the Dark Soap

Nurture soaps also carries the glow in the dark pigment, although last time I checked it was out of stock. I purchased mine here: http://fssoapworks.com/?product=glo-green . I'm not sure about the shipping cost as its local for me and I'm able to pick up. The one from Florida Suncoast...

    Toil and Trouble

Talk about happy accidents! That soap is WOW! Just gorgeous! As others have said, it looks like you meant to do it just that way.

Troubleshooting help -- 100% tallow soap with heavy foam layer

I've had this happen once before. I didn't know what to call it, but I like the term "brain cheese". :) I can't be sure what caused it, but when it happened to me, it was when I first started adding sugar to my batches. Additionally, I was using high water (25% lye solution) AND I was...

    Stinky dog dilemma

Hmmm....I haven't experienced that with my pups. Don't get me wrong, my pups get stinky; but once they're stinky they stay stinky. Usually they have to be bathed every 2-3 weeks. It's not a small job considering that my smallest is 65 pounds. I'd go with "dog in the sun" smell as...

    Glow in the Dark Soap

Neat! That is a fabulous soap. I just made a glow-in-the-dark soap for Halloween, but I don't think I used enough of the glow powder. Mine glows, but it's faint. If you don't mind me asking Rusti; how much powder did you use to get that gorgeous glow?

    Toxic Avenger

That soap looks great. The drag marks are easily taken care of with a planer. I get impatient when cutting, and get them all the time. Truly it turned into a happy accident.

Anyone in the path of Irma

Everything's ok here. Lost an avocado tree in the back yard and a large limb out of the jacaranda in the front yard; but otherwise all is good.

Anyone in the path of Irma

As of Sunday morning, it looks like its going to come directly over us; but it's also wobbling around. It's hard to say where it will end up. Everyone stay safe, and be kind to each other.

Anyone in the path of Irma

Just wanted to say to any of my other Florida soapers in the path of Irma to be safe and take care. It looks like she's going to be an unpredictable storm. I live in a non-evacuation zone; so I am going to be riding it out. I'm in St. Petersburg, we're expecting heavy wind and tons of rain...

    Red wine soap

Actually, I really like it! :) I think it looks like pink granite.

    Testing a fragrance - A newbie question

Welcome to the forum. I would wait it out. As others have said, if it does not zap then it's probably fragrance oil; if so, the fragrance oil will probably reabsorb into the soap. Don't be too quick to discount all of the shop's fragrances. Floral fragrances are notorious for...

Suggestion on Red Micas and Gold

I'm sorry, I can't help with gold mica; but I'm absolutely in love with "Really Red!" mica from Nurture Soaps. You do need to use a touch more of it than some other colors to get a really vibrant red; and it is just a touch harder to disperse in oil or glycerin. So make sure you have it mixed...

    Not just for soap

Those are great ideas! It seems like I collect a ton of those little bottles. I hate to throw them out, but have yet to come up with a use for them.

    'Vanilla Absolute Essential Oil' ???

I saw something similar to this the last week at a local shop. The soap was labeled "all-natural" and fragranced with "watermelon essential oil blend". Seriously? Watermelon essential oil? Another soap; this time a liquid soap by the same soap maker was labeled "all-natural", and the second...

    Your first soap

My first ever soap was about 12 years ago. It was a "blender soap" recipe that I found online using Crisco, distilled water, and Red Devil Lye. (Anyone else remember Red Devil? It was a much simpler time when you could buy lye in the grocery store. :) ) Everything was weighed with a spring...

Trivia about Aroma Haven / Rustic Escentuals

If I'm not mistaken, and I may well be, as it's been several years ago; Rustic Escentuals merged with Aroma Haven when Aroma Haven was going out of business. (Could be vice versa, my memory is hazy.) Additionally, over the years the combined Aroma Haven/Rustic Escentuals have acquired the...
