    Crisco CPHP Question

Speaking from experience, Crisco isn't a satisfactory replacement for lard.....palm or tallow would be. Crisco is too soft and isn't stable enough to use in those quantities unless you up your PKO and Coconut to a level where the soap is drying. Just my two cents. Mike

    Laundry Soap sans Borax?

You can make my no shred laundry soap recipe sans borax and it will still work fine.....just add about 1/3 cup ammonia in its place.

    Conditioning VS Creamy

I make this one for my 85 year old grandmother and she loves it. For that matter, I like it a lot too!

    o.k. I feel dumb!

Thankfully they didn't combust! :) They will probably still make soap, but maybe not the greatest soap.....If you dont like it, you can always use it for cleaning/laundry and the like.

    Soft soap

Seriously, I would get something that is pure lye rather than heating it. If it has fillers, you probably don't want it in your soap (who knows if the fillers are skin safe???), and you're not going to get an accurate lye calculation, so you're not going to know what your lye discount is...

how soon can you safely use soap?

It's okay to use as long as it doesn't zap, and I always try a sliver, but I do find the 4 week cure does make it milder and nicer in addition to the longer lasting.

    laundry soap snafu....

Yeah....that would make a softish batch of laundry soap. No worries, it still cleans fine, and IMHO, that's the best way to make it.....with whatever is left over! :)

    laundry soap snafu....

More than the raw soap, it depends on the oil blend you use and the amount of soap you use. I've had everything from egg noodle soup to almost true soft soap. It all works fine.

    Stick blender recommendations?

What she said! Oster stick blenders leave air bubbles in your soap more than any other brand. I have mastered the knack of mine and getting good soap, but they make it harder than most.

    laundry soap snafu....

It's fine....just stir it up before you use it. Soaps made with sodium hydroxide and then melted just do that. It will be okay! :)

    Castille soap constantly getting DOS

Personally, when I start selling, I don't plan on selling pure Castile....just too much of a headache.

    soap for hunters

Personally, I think  and EW.....but you could have a niche market for that. I know lotsa hunters that would think that was the coolest stuff in the world.

how to get rid of DOS

I went back through my past year and a half's soaping notes to check this out. The only batches with DOS all had numbers greater than 70. One batch where I used a good deal of DOS prone veg shortening is still keeping fine.....the coconut was high enough to keep the number below 70. Nice soap too.

    Lemon or Orange Oil?

Can I add a suggestion? Saveonscents lemon FO is very nice, true, and STRONG and lasts forever! Plus it's a bargain at about $10 for a 1 lb bottle.
