    FO Percent Usage in Lotion

I am typically at 1% in lotions, but I don't like strong scents.

Help finding a good Shampoo & Conditioner bar recipe

Castor oil doesn't create lather. It only stabilizes the lather produced by other fatty acids. Tallow does contain some cleansing/lathering FAs, so I agree with the recommendation to add some of that.

How can I make an oily and creamy soap like DOVE Soap

As DeeAnna noted above, Dove isn't really soap. It's made with synthetic detergents, not saponified fatty acids. Using a higher superfat and lower-cleansing FAs can make a soap less stripping, but cannot make it "moisturizing," and those who market their soap as such are being misleading. The...

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

I will add that I don't mix the CA in with all the other dry ingredients. Instead, I wait until I've incorporated the other dry ingredients with the wet ones. Only then do I mix in the CA as the very last ingredient. Doing it that way helps to keep the CA from activating, because the wet...

    Hot process

Yes, the soap should be fine (assuming all the lye and oil measurements were correct). To preserve more of the fragrance, you could also choose to skip the hot processing and pour it into the molds now. Of course, if you used lots of water, it will be a very soft soap without cooking some of...

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

YES YES YES PLEASE! I've tried Zing's lip balm, and it is great! EDIT for full disclosure: I made mine today, so I really should let Zing give his to his other friends... so he can stay, you know, SO POPULAR with all of them.

    Lye Deposits in CP Soap

Here was BB's response to me: Hi! Thanks for bringing this up! I'll let our product development team know. The IFRA however, is the maximum amount of fragrance/essential oil a product could hold, but shouldn't be taken as the recommended amount. We state in the product description to use this...

    Humbleebee and Me Lotion Workshop?

I completely understand! Honestly, my recommendation is to start on the simple side of things, before thinking about investing a lot of money into Marie's course. She is a good teacher and no doubt will provide good value in the course. But if your main goal is to make a nice, basic lotion that...

Ph 14 Soap Paste would like to save any ideas please?

I guess I'm too young to be your granny, but substitute slightly older sister and we are right there. ;)

Ph 14 Soap Paste would like to save any ideas please?

I'm sorry, I know it is disappointing to throw something out after you tried so hard. But sometimes starting over is best, and I believe this is one of those times. FYI, as a scientific matter, soap must remain at 9 pH or above, or it starts to break apart into an oily mess - not really soap...

    Humbleebee and Me Lotion Workshop?

I love making lotions! I haven't purchased Marie's lotion workshop but I did take her free mini-course on YouTube. It's a playlist on her channel entitled, "How to Formulate Natural Lotion." It was quite informative. That being said, I have had a lot of success with this DIY Bath & Body recipe...

Super happy fun soap, @Deb's mess! I really like yours too, Midnight Sun!

Ph 14 Soap Paste would like to save any ideas please?

Thank you for posting your entire recipe and process, as that is a big help. But... I have to be honest, you did so many things to this batch that it's very difficult to untangle. Please know that I don't say any of this to be mean, but it is best to be honest about what's gone wrong. First, it...

    Soap Classes

Based on my experience of teaching a couple beginning soapmkaing classes, here is what I suggest: 1. Have them make a 100% coconut oil soap. This will set up very quickly and can typically be unmolded within two hours, especially if you soap at warmer temps. 2. Have each student's lye solution...

    dishwasher for soaping tools

Now that you mention that, it reminded me that my slow cooker's ceramic liner did start to show signs of soapmaking wear, in the form of abrasions on the bottom from the stickblender. By that time, I had already started moving away from the crockpot and using a stainless pot directly on the...

    dishwasher for soaping tools

I mostly agree with you. After all, we use SOAP to cleanse our food dishes, right? And sodium hydroxide solutions are not only used to make pretzels and olives, they are also used in some kitchen cleaning solutions, and even to adjust pH in skin lotions, shampoos, and the like, albeit at very...
