Using ocean water in CP soap-did lye dissolve?

Sea water will not clear up it will stay cloudy. As long as you don't hear or see any undisolved lye beads you should be good to go. You might want to strain the lye solution just to catch anything that didn't dissolve.

    PKO salt bar update

I made babassu salt bars and I like them more than the co. As far as only co lathering in salty soaps it is the myristic and lauric fatty acids that do the job. Pko, co, babassu all are high in those fatty acids so should work.

    Just The Facts, Please

Though I agree with most of your original comment, I will tell you that this is not always the case. I happened to grow up very poor and very vegan, but things were very different then. We spent all summer in the garden and canning to be able to survive new England winters. I know love meat and...

    Just The Facts, Please

All I know is how much I love animal fats in soap. If people make derogatory comments it is their reputation.

    Natural Emulsifier

Lecithin is a natural emulsifier but I doubt the hlb would be compatible with what you are trying to accomplish. I believe there are some naturally derived ewaxs available. Check out www.swiftcraftymonkey.blogspot.com for tons of info

    Measuring pH in cp soap

I am not judging you for your decision not to zap test your soaps but I think you might be over complicating this. To my knowledge taste historically has been a valuable and valid chemical property. Your tongue too is an important chemical sensor. Personally, for me there is no more simple or...

    Hard time with wire cutter

I have found if you wait longer to cut the bubbly texture is not.as likely to occur. How long? It will depend on your recipe. I read this somewhere and it definitely helps. The way you do this will depend on of you have a single or multibar cutter. I have a single so it was pretty easy to...

Best quality ingredients, RBD, organic... questions.

No I don't currently sell. I have people begging to buy though. I think #1 you should love your recipe if that includes tallow, awesome. You need to have a product you are passionate about. It would be impossible to make everybody happy with one recipe anyway.

Best quality ingredients, RBD, organic... questions.

Most of my soap is made with lard, oo, and co. I do use refined co because the price of virgin is too much for me to justify for wash off products. Your priorities with quality are whatever you make them. I know what I make use the best quality within reason.

    Recipe review please

For sure that should give you loads of time it is almost exactly what I use frequently. I should say it will also depend on fo or eo and temps. Have fun

    Raising Butterflies

They are and so interesting to compare the two species. Up here the swallowtails overwinter in their chrysalis and are the first butterflies in the spring. Where as the monarchs travel to mexico. They are both so imazing and beautiful. I was thinking about making an outdoor area next year so we...

Type of candle wax that looks like Hot Process soap?

They might have added a very small amount of crystalline wax to a soy blend. I messed up some like that and it was an interesting texture.

    Raising Butterflies

Not this time. They alway lay eggs and feed on some queen annes lace near my garden. We might do that next year. I am in New Hampshire I think the black swallowtails live in most of North America. Where are you located?

Best quality ingredients, RBD, organic... questions.

I don't know if it is possible to have organic pomace oil since it is solvent extracted. Rbd stands for refined bleached deodorized I believe. Good luck

Soft Soap - Small rant, need advice

Did you make one batch of soap and separate it and only add pumpkin to half? Did you discount your water to compensate for the pumpkin? It sounds like you have a soap with different water/lye concentrations which would explain the issues you are having.

Forgot to add the palm! But no zap????

So if it isn't zapping it is safe to use. That said it may not be awesome for skin. Let it cure try it out you might love it. If you don't it would probably make a fine laundry soap. If you really want to rebatch you can of course. If I was rebatching soap that was missing an oil but didn't zap...

    Shrink band question

I don't see cured cp soap leaving oily marks on a cigar band. Either way is fine just make sure it can breathe.

    Micro buisness man

I think there is an implication that making soap is easy money. If that is what thw thought is I think you are setting yourself up for a huge disappointment.
