    Melt and Pour woes

@ackosel , I agree with Basti that your daughter probably overheated the base. I have never used a liquid colorant, but in my experience, when I add anything- mica, E.O. , F.O, exfoliant after heating the base (which is always), it accelerates cooling a little. I haven't found additives to...

How to get a soap with two colours on the face

Ingredients: Glycerin, propylene glycol, sodium cocoate, goat's milk, oatmeal powder, water, sodium stearate, sorbitol, sodium myristate, tocopherol, titanium dioxide, iron oxide, fragrance @blue54899 It occurs to me that this -ground oatmeal -two-tone look is throughout the soap! Not...

How to get a soap with two colours on the face

@blue54899 I agree with @dibbles and @Lidiacgarcia . That is a single cavity mold with the design as part of the mold. But, you can do this in any single cavity mold with or without a design in it. Although I'm a beginner and don't really recognize names of ingredients after saponification...

Why do you like making soap?

@ewhitake , the last time I saw a person selling what I assumed to be M&P soap, it was through a facebook post. They only called their soap "Shea Butter soap." Below is the description: "Hey fam and friends! I’ve got some handmade soap available if anyone is interested! They are all natural...

Thought I had conquered DOS... it's back! At a loss :(

@merrysoap , I'm also a reasonably new soaper. I haven't yet experienced DOS (that I am aware of) and don't have any words of wisdom to add. But, your soaps are beautiful and I'm SUPER impressed by how systematically you have gone through your procedures to try to identify the culprit. The...

Why do you like making soap?

@Firefly24 I use goatmilk powder. I don't sell my soap, I do it for a hobby. I don't know if those that sell their soap feel like they must use fresh goatmilk to be able to say it's goatmilk soap. But, adding goatmilk powder is super simple (although I do have a question about it that I have...

Why do you like making soap?

@Pastel , where do you live and what is your native language? I'm sorry that this forum is in English only. I speak Spanish (although English is my primary and dominant language in the U.S.) and there are some words, phrases and/ or expressions that have no good direct translation into English...

Is mixing micas for cold process soap disfavored?

@Ephemerella , your process sounds so "live and let live" I was hoping you would post a photo, what GREAT soap!! Such a beautiful flow to the different colors! thanks for sharing!

I bought a fair amount of micas, essential oils and some fragrance oils (that claimed to be an essential oil) on Amazon when I first started out- that was with M&P. The reds, oranges, and browns bled or migrated. I have since bought reds and orange micas on WSP that purportedly don't bled...

    Coffee Fragrance Oil

I have 4 different coffee FO's- Crafter's Choice, Rustic Escentuals, MYOB, and Eeque. They all are really SWEET smelling, more like really sweet chocolate, less like coffee. Too sweet for my taste. So, I'm wondering if the coffee FO's others like are sweet or if they smell like fresh brewed...

    Did I ruin this soap?

@montana1 I've never made hot process soap, only cold process soap. What you described seems crazy complicated and labor intensive. Relatively speaking, cold process is pretty simple .... It sounds like your soap turned out fine- so that's great news!! if you found that too labor intensive...

Purple clay acting weird in soap

How about coming up with a nice melt and pour recipe and making some beautiful purple soaps? No problem with manganese violet there!!

Purple clay acting weird in soap

@Mobjack Bay , yes, sometimes having an actual NEED to know can really make subject matter come alive. Someone needs to offer an online class called “chemistry for soap makers.” If you happen to know of one , let me know!!

@SRNJJJV I just read that really informative thread referenced by @Elise If your clay has manganese violet in it, maybe that is the culprit. Hopefully, you just need to try again but increase the amount you use. I've only made 25 batches (mostly 450-500 gram batches ), so I'm not much...

Does anyone add Titanium dioxide directly to lye water?

@AliOop , I agree. I really must have bought a low quality TD. I can't believe that I have to beat up on mine for 20 minutes to even begin to avoid specks while others give it a little shake with a marble. Either that or life is truly not fair....

Purple clay acting weird in soap

@Vicki C and @ Mobjack Bay - wow, I had no idea! @Mobjack Bay, that's funny, cuz you seem a little bit like a chemist to me ! Maybe somewhere in your gene pool? I seriously will need to read this many times for it to all sink in.. @Mobjack Bay , one more thing to have to remember and watch...

@SRNJJJV , I don't have a comment on what to do different with the clay or the petals. The Nerdy Farmwife has an article "9 Brazilian Clays to Naturally Color Soap." You might take a peak at that. She made a BEAUTIFUL pink soap with clay. I know the soap isn't what you were going for. That...

    Hi forum

@Ekuzo, welcome! You're from Bulgaria? I'd be curious what oils you usually use? It seems that what is abundant in one place is not always true someplace else.
