Struggling to come up with a pourable HP recipe for birch tar soap

I also don't HP but I've never seen a liquid version. They always looked gloopy when I've researched it. If it's crumbly that could be the salt or the amount of hard oils. I would half the shea butter and soy wax and sub the other halves with a liquid oil (rice bran, olive, avocado, sunflower...

    Lard

@PaintyLiz Thanks! I'll have to try using a cardboard box. Luckily Christmas presents have been arriving so we have a lot of boxes on hand right now. 😄 I'm getting at least 40lbs of tallow so I'm going to be rendering for a few days. 😬 Which is why I worry about the smell. Reading yours and...

    Lard

@AliOop when you render do you start with a dry or wet method? Do both create a smell or is one less smelly? It's getting colder here and I'm worried about running my crockpot outside in 30-40F weather. Do you think the smell would carry to the house if I did it in the garage? Good news is I...

    Soap gelled???

I don't use an oven. I gel using a heating pad and place a cardboard box overtop. I do that for 15-30 min depending on how hot I soaped. Then I turn off the pad and let it sit for 18-24hrs. I know that a lot of people on here when they put it in the oven they preheat it and turn it off before...

    Soap gelled???

Generally gelled soap can be unmolded quicker. If you're watching the soap you should be able to see a color change after 30min to an hour. But if it's just set it up and leave it unless it goes through partial gel I don't know how to tell. Someone else might though. Here are some pics for...

    Bergamot Fruit Juice/Peels

Fragrances/EOs can do crazy things in soap. If you read posts on here you see things such as soap seizing with a few minutes of adding them to them causing your soap to separate. Depending on where you got your essential oils they might have notes telling you how they behave in CP soap. Is it...

    Bergamot Fruit Juice/Peels

8% is pretty high. I soap at about 2-4%. There are various factors that could cause it to be soft. High SF is one of them. The bergamot juice might have done something. Is it hard enough to cut a chunk off? You could use that to test it for zap and lather. If it soaps well and doesn't zap I'd...
